And now Miliband seems to suggest Chagos won't happen for as long as Trump is in the White House. Response to @TomTugendhat: "as has become, clear, with the current US administration, we won't get consent for the current arrangements..."

šŸ¤”Did Ed Miliband just let slip that Russia was behind JLR hack? @DavidReedMP asks if he will name nation state behind attack after @AlistairCarns statement... doesn't mention any country. Miliband: I won't get to the details... BUT says "I've talked a lot in this session about Russia and about what it is doing"

How did the grid react as Storm Austen and Storm Boelo passed through over the weekend? This is something I pulled together over the weekend. It's part of a new video format that I'm exploring to better explain what's going on within the energy system and the wider context surrounding it (such as the weather). As always, a huge credit is due to all the open data sources that make these visuals possible. I've listed them all at the end of the video, please check them out. (Much) More soon…

Frequency above the operational range this morning The second chart is the wind output. The blue shaded area to the left is wind on the transmission system The lighter shaded area to the left is wind that had to be curtailed off... It's absolutely massive and the reason we've already spent over £25 million balancing the grid today About a third of current wind generation is being thrown away This is what you get when you race to build windfarms behind grid constraints. This is our money being wasted by the Connect and Manage policy this government refuses to cancel (charts from Amira Technologies) @Miatsf @mgshanks @AndrewBowie_MP @ClaireCoutinho @harrietc @ColinMoynihanUK @drlukeevans @ashley7fox @TiceRichard @cmackinlay @DavidGHFrost @mattwridley @Iromg @AllisonPearson @MerrynSW @EdConwaySky @afneil @mattotele @jonathan_leake @julietsamuel @energygovuk

Exclusive from @breeallegretti Ministers have been secretly warned that some English reservoirs are at risk of running dry, hitting water supplies to homes in the run-up to Christmas The government’s emergency committee, known as Cobra, is meeting up to twice a week to discuss the situation in the southwest of England and Sussex A secret ā€œreasonable worst-case scenarioā€ was drawn up, anticipating that several reservoirs’ water stocks could fall to 0 per cent — dubbed ā€œday zeroā€ — within weeks Officials warned that without action, supplies to some homes could be affected, along with disruption to the construction of a nuclear power station and operations at a prison Wimbleball reservoir, which supplies more than 400,000 people in Somerset, has 13 per cent of its capacity, while Ardingly, which serves 280,000 customers across West Sussex, is at 17 per cent Ministers battling to avoid reservoirs running dry by Christmas thetimes.com/article/7812e10…

Today I made what was meant to be a light-hearted self-deprecating remark. I didn’t get it right and it hasn’t come off as I intended. I fully support our Home Secretary and the government’s position on migration reform. As I said earlier this week, it’s absolutely right that people should have to make a contribution to this country in order to earn citizenship.

Becoming increasingly strange the way Nigel Farage insists on keeping Kassam a close member of his inner-circle. Every day he toxifies his and Reform's brand even more. What is it that makes this guy indispensable to him.

What is going to last longer... collective responsibility or traditional whipping
An interesting reflection on this from Miatta Fahnbulleh herself. Speaking to journalists today, she said: "I made three promises to myself when I came into politics. The first was never lie, which has created some awkward moments, including being interviewed by Sophy Ridge yesterday." xitter.cf/SophyRidgeSky/status/2…

Technology is genuinely one of the most terrifying things to try to cover
I feel so sorry for @joetidy he must have thought that gig would be nice and quiet and BANG 4 and PHP and other explanations to people who have no idea what he’s banging on about but can’t get into their banking app or gov account and he’s dragged onto the telly every day to try and say it without 300000k nerds saying he’s said the wrong thing slightly with the name it was 2 weeks ago and had been for 3 decades. Like poor sod.

Consistent with guidance from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), we have taken our website offline in view of the critical security issues affecting PHP. We will continue to follow further guidance. For more information, see the NCSC advisory: ncsc.gov.uk/news/critical-se…

It is getting extremely tiresome with speaker always blowing up at this. Ministers could not have given the statement before midday today, and if it was on Monday then it would have been after 3.30pm or maybe not even possible on a Friday. Prehistoric scheduling is the problem xitter.cf/JackElsom/status/21129…

What's harder to pay off: Plan 2 Student Loans or Government borrowing during COVID
Over 2 million graduates made repayments last year and still ended up owing more. The student finance system is broken. It's a tax on aspiration, stopping graduates from starting a family or getting on the housing ladder. We need a review and a fair deal.

This does very much look odd, but googling and reading some of the litigation points to a Home Office decision mainly, so not unreasonable to assume Powell not invovled. Not, though, something that should be worming its way into public on X... but don't stop on my account
National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell's wife suggests he was not too involved in proscribing Palestine Action, which was done on national security grounds... No10 officials must be tearing their hair out...
