Looking forward to talking about Percy Shelley's emetic aesthetics @LPRomantic in a few weeks. Better get started. #romanticism #Shelley
Looking forward to hearing great papers and giving the Annual Lecture on 'Hazlitt and Coleridge' at the Hazlitt Day School @UCLEvents (Institute of Advanced Studies), this year marking the 200th anniversary of 'The Spirit of the Age.' ucl.ac.uk/hazlitt-society/da…
A (belated) shout out for Jonathan Sach's magisterial 2018 monograph on the concept of decline in Romanticism. Each chapter loaded with insights: on the temporal parallax of slow vs accelerated time, the aesthetics of ruin, Darwin and Romanticism, and much more.
Recently been reading this excellent study of Shelley by @shelleyscholar. It's taught me much about syncope and caesura in Shelley as well as challenging my assumptions about his relation to Kant.
Great to see my chapter, 'The Ordure of Things: Coleridge, Schelling, and the Invisible Remainder' appear in this terrific volume, just published. #Schelling #Coleridge
My copy of this handsome volume arrived today. What a great achievement by Denise Gigante and Jason Childs; well done to @CUP_LitPerform and all the contributors to this excellent collection.
Looking forward to today's first panel on Romantic Waste -- finally got my paper ready(ish). #BARSGlasgow2024 #BARS2024
Thoroughly enjoyable panel on libraries and reading patterns in early 19thC Scotland, including excellent paper on the novel and improvement by @cleo_ocy #BARSGlasgow2024 #BARS2024
