Hurricane + Tornadoes. Do we even have a name for that? It's like a poly-disaster. I'm keeping an eye on Isaias
We have an unusually High #Tornado Threat from #Hurricane Isaias
This movie uses real data, to help educate on why this storm poses an enhanced risk. Notice the yellow vs blue arrows. Yellow are the winds just below the clouds, it’s the low level wind flow (jet) around and feeding into the storm. Blue are the mid-level winds associated with the jet stream. You’ll notice that as Isaias approaches the Gulf Coast the blue arrows increase and the low-level vs mid-levels winds vigorously cross (X) each other. That’s the jet stream (blue arrows) being infused into the tropical system. That will create more cross winds/ shear, weaken #Isaias, but embolden spin in the outer bands. This injection of energy will power strong #tornadoes on the storm’s east side at landfall in the #Florida Panhandle and beyond into the Southeast. Not all storms have this, but it’s more common in fall as the mid-latitude jet stream increases. And it gives the transitioning tropical storm system a different character. It causes the wind field at the core to expand, making the storm larger, empowering the outer bands with more wind, at the expense of the core winds which weaken. (Although all set ups are different, Milton and Sandy come to mind)
*This animation does use real wind data, but the tornadoes are added to illustrate where the greatest risk is. They are not meant to forecast exactly where the tornadoes will be.

In recent years, two cyclists have been killed after being struck by vehicles near Avenue Road and Bloor Street:
In April of 2024, the driver of a flatbed truck killed Ali Sezgin Armagan, 39. Armagan, a recent immigrant from Turkey, was delivering food for Uber Eats when he was hit.
Three months later, the driver of a dump truck hit and killed an unnamed 24-year-old woman at Bloor and Avenue. A construction dumpster blocking the bike lane forced the cyclist to merge into traffic, where she was fatally struck.
Doug Ford's culture war on bike infrastructure will force cyclists to compete with drivers for space. It will make everyone less safe and lead to more deaths

Had an inspiring meeting today that left me thinking all day...
The Carney government has a significant blind spot.
Canada’s charitable and nonprofit sector is enormous. It contributes more than $216 billion in economic activity, equivalent to about 8% of GDP, and employs roughly one in ten Canadian workers. It operates in virtually every community in the country. Yet when Ottawa talks about nation-building, the sector is almost entirely absent from the conversation.
You can't build a stronger country with steel, concrete, foreign investment, and faster procurement alone.
You also need people to feel connected to the project, to feel that they have a role in it, and to believe that building a stronger Canada means something in their own community and their own life.
The PM alluded to the agency Canadians have in his speech two Saturdays ago, but didn't mention this part of society that's proven to be essential in the past.
It's kinda funny watching Toronto conservatives lose their mind over Chris Alexander's campaign. It wouldn't be an issue if we had ranked ballot voting! Doug Ford screwed them over lol I hope @TorontoRaBIT is eating well on that side of the aisle
I spent 18 years explaining sustainability.
I'm starting to think it's the wrong word.
A thread on why 🧵
Same goes for investing. When your money reflects your values, you stop feeling like your portfolio is quietly working against the future you want.
And when markets get weird, that makes it a lot easier to stay the course.
You can't control the headlines.
You can control what you own.
Build sustainability, and you build stability. We could all use more of that right now.

I hope all of the #olpldr candidates who have spent the last few months touring around Northern Ontario only to now watch it burning actually present solid climate plans. We've had eight years of dismantling climate action under Doug Ford. What's your plan to turn the corner?
