like it's a bag or set of house keys...
Not "differently-abled"
which still centres able-bodied...

On the eve of Disability Pride Month, it’s worth emphasizing that the term “disabled” is not an insult.
For many of us, despite its complicated nature, it is a source of pride.

It strikes me that to have a good theology of healing, you also need a robust theology of suffering. Otherwise people suffer and even die with a sense of shame and failure that they were not healed. This is spiritual abuse. #spiritualabuse #shame #healing #suffering

The “feckless scrounger” myth is being peddled by the right wing media again. The ‘workless’ they so desperately want you to hate include people found too disabled or ill to work, carers slogging 24/7 for loved ones, and mums looking after young kids.
An astonishing 18% of people in Manchester are on out of work benefits - in the middle of a worker shortage crisis.
How could this be possible?

An unprecedent number of people are not working due to disability, ONS find today. Regular reminder that this is not because people are “idle” or “scroungers.” This government makes us sicker: crumbling NHS, broken social security, and hollowed out preventative health services.

What a pointless story. So many more people are neurodivergent or have non-visible impairments but fight to get diagnosed but let's focus on fakers eh? Like what's faking ADHD going to get you in life? Waste of time & damaging to the disabled community. Thanx.

#IsItOk that I went to hand deliver a letter to the Prime Minister today & the ramp only deals with one step & doesn’t leave enough turning space to use it safely…
If #accessibility isn’t right at @10DowningStreet what hope do we have on public transport?
#DisabledByTheRailway

ALT A police officer leans out of 10 Downing Street to take a big envelope from me, I am sat in my powerchair on the pavement.. a ramp is deployed but I was unable to use it. My MP Bell stands between me & the police officer as she had to knock the door for me as it wasn’t accessible for me to do it myself.

I was just reading this report. Scope found that nearly 75% of disabled people have experienced negative attitudes/behaviour in past 5 yrs, incl verbal/physical abuse. 23% avoid public transport as a result (reflects my experience). 13% avoid health care bec of negative attitudes
Important research by @scope was released last week on Attitudes.
Stats were highlighted, including the fact that 42% of disabled people surveyed had felt negative attitudes by management at work, and 52% from benefits assessors when accessing welfare.

I, for one, believe that not only do masks protect, their presence is a rhetoric of care: it acknowledges immunocompromised communities.

We agree and understand that there have been rumours that we lost last night’s match.
We, of course, could’ve done things differently, but would advise people to await the outcome of Sue Gray’s inquiry before jumping to any conclusions…
