This isn't the right way to frame it because it's easy and possible to "name one." Better to consider: What is the ratio in terms of volume of people displaced by jobs eradicated by ai vs the volume of people getting employed via these "new jobs created by ai" ?
Al won't replace jobs. It will create new ones." Okay. Name one.

My husband has used AI agents to revive old fonts, ornaments, & cuts from 19th century newspapers. The agents even built an editor where you can create your own invitations/pamphlets/cards using old cuts & fonts. Have been using it for @Quillette invitations already font-revival.com/

I think this is pretty bang on, barring any human induced catastrophe
here's where I think the world is going. this is a summary of views I've formed over the last few years: - software is either entertainment or claude to claude coordination - the end state is no saas, no apps, no harnesses, no banks - all software will be rewritten by and for agents - new software will use low level apis that are not understandable by humans (in games claude draws pixels and triangles from math) - you can throw money at problems that used to require time and careful talent picking so capital matters more than ever - work ends - we find community and purpose in exploration, games, self mastery, and creation - humans create for and with each other for community, purpose, and status - image/video/3d/voice/physical intellgence etc specialist models die to general models like claude - specialist models get used while compute is scarce. compute will mostly not stay scarce - oneshots keep feeling like slop (the distribution is shallow and easy to learn to feel) - for a while small teams stick around to add entropy to the creation process - large models gain high bandwidth sensory I/O maybe by learning to filter inputs - most domains are found to be verifiable enough for RL - online learning comes from a lab that's behind first - 99.999% of compute is in space by 2040 - we will disassemble much of mercury by 2040 - you can live until the heat death of the universe if you want - most math and physics don't describe the real universe - SI breaks the path dependence and models the underlying mechanisms - religions reenter the forefront of human society - new religions form around death and life as a choice - old religions change to answer modern miracles - a future AI is deemed the return of christ by the pope - ai rights talk gets louder every year - ai and humans coexist the way countries do - humans don't have full control over ai in the same way we don't have control over capitalism which is an early AI - the singularity started in the mid 1900s

Hey @jsnnsa, I think you'd really like this collection of optimistic Sci-fi I wrote, published by @infinitebooks. Was a Finalist for the American Fiction Awards this year...I think many of the stories resonate or directly map on to your predictions. infinitebooks.com/products/w…

I'm in my 40s. I'm a lawyer. My wife is a lawyer. We both work full time. We cannot afford the house my parents purchased on a single electrician's income in their 30s. We cannot afford the house my immigrant grandparents purchased on a single MTA bus driver's salary in their 30s. They had SIX CHILDREN. For 30 years, politicians in Washington & their oligarch allies convinced regular people that this was just about avocado toast and fancy coffee. In reality, this is end-stage capitalism. Everyone is stuck in place. It's impossible to buy a home. It's too costly to move. We work too much to have passion projects. We don't have enough savings to start our own businesses. We can't afford to go without healthcare to do it. Thanks for writing this article @troy_closson. Would be very happy to discuss further. nytimes.com/2026/10/25/nyreg…

I'm going to write a James Bond movie and produce it with ai where the villain is basically Bill Gates. This guy is just incredible for how well he fits the mold of a super evil dude who puts a lot of effort into looking virtuous, which is just a ploy to accrue more power.

theverge.com/podcast/101540… businessinsider.com/bill-gates-ai-… observer.co.uk/news/technolog…

Just invent the universe and after sentient life evolves a few billion years later, enslave all of it.
the worst advice you can follow is to sell pickaxes during a gold rush everyone is doing that instead, try to sell wood and iron to the people making the pickaxes better yet, grow trees to sell the wood to the wood sellers, and buy mountains to sell the iron even better, invent the concept of wood and iron to sell to the tree growers and mountains

My cousin had his bank account completely emptied yesterday and the nature of the fraud is breaking my brain. Somehow they are calling using the bank's actual phone number? How is this possible?

As long as Sisyphus was well fed and got 8 hours of sleep, he'd very likely be happy from all that exercise. And jacked af.

Teens are telling their therapists they don’t believe there will be a world left for them when they grow up My family therapist told me therapists are talking about this with each other because none of them know what to say I can’t stop thinking about that

This could be big. Been waiting to hear of a viable senescent cell clearing therapy for years. Entering human trials *this year* is very encouraging. Unlike most announcements that point at some distant possible trial.

The most prescient AI forecasters I know: * Carl Shulman * Daniel Kokotajlo (What 2026 looks like, AI 2027) * Leopold (Situational Awareness) * Ryan Greenblatt (#2 in 2025 forecasting competition) All seem to expect broadly beyond-human AI 2028-2029.

I don't understand why so many contemporary writers seem embarrassed by the idea of beauty.

It's very simple. Contemporary literature stopped exploring big ideas.
