Today's launch (Sept 15, 12:00 ET / 16:00 UTC): A 48 hour blind auction for 8,000 of the identities.
The other 2,000 were already distributed: 1,000 free to early sign-ups (that phase closed, check @snarklist , those chosen can still nominate one person for consideration) and 1,000 held in treasury.
How the auction works: People submit sealed bids using ZEC. The top 8,000 bids win. But instead of each winner paying their own bid amount, everyone pays the same final price, the lowest bid among the winners, that's called the clearing price, and anyone outbid gets refunded automatically.
