For Long Library, I wrote about Backrooms, which I thought was mostly a failure, and about how it compares to two other works - Silent Hill and Channel Zero - which suggest where it might have gone wrong. 🔗 below

Eventually will. I just got married a couple weeks ago and haven't had the time to edit any long pieces and also haven't been able to justify investing any of my money into paying writers. Hoping to publish something new in the near future, and always accepting pitches.

For Long Library, I wrote about paired visions of elite depravity and individual complicity in Michael Clayton and Eyes Wide Shut. 🔗 below

Today at The Hobbyhorse we have @ethantgibson on THE TRIP series and it's strange mixture of bathos and pathos, it's hilarious, lowbrow schtick and awkward, mock self-important metafictional tendencies all combining to vivisect the travelogue. thehobbyhorse.substack.com/p…

Happy to work with @ToTheHappyNone on one of my favourite American films, one that interrogates our cherished beliefs about recorded realities through genre frameworks and tropes.

Wow, this is on pace to become the most viewed essay The Hobbyhorse has ever published. ICYMI, check it out!
Up now at The Hobbyhorse, @DuncanAStuart with a fashionably late review of Anna Kornbluh's IMMEDIACY, a valuable theory of mediation that unfortunately does not sufficiently mediate the history of its concepts and influences. Link it reply:

In which I call Bernard Harcourt “a glorified toastmaster”, Maggie Nelson “an easier intellectual target than a barn door comprised of Peterson quotes” and Anna Kornbluh “a North American”.

Happy Bloomsday, nerds. Re upping this essay I wrote last year after I finally Managed to finish one single book.
Up now at The Hobbyhorse: @DuncanAStuart, Mr. I Haven't Read ULYSSES, has read ULYSSES. "What we hold in common—speech, art, thought, land—can also divide us. The problem with the idea of my own private Ulysses is that I must narrate it to someone." thehobbyhorse.substack.com/p…

Happy to write for The Hobbyhorse again on cronenbergs ruminations on age and the body, and the changes it brings to his tone, mood and style.
