Divergent evolution in plague doctors. (I am nearly sure this idea has been done before, but I couldn’t resist the shoebill version.)

On what would have been his 82nd birthday, the White House honors Emmett Till and his mother with a national monument. "We can't forget," said Alan Spears of @NPCA who worked on the designation. Here's how the three sites tell his story and role in the civil rights movement.

Wow, things just keep getting weirder here. Anyway, enjoy this Great Basin Spadefoot (Spea intermontana) warming itself on a paved road just after sunset in Montezuma County, Colorado, USA.

Back from a few wonderful days in Channel Islands National Park. Lots of photos to come including some cool behavior but to start with; a simple photo of the park's most famous resident: The island fox (Urocyon littoralis). A dwarf fox species endemic to the islands.

This nest definitely has 3 bedrooms, a game room, movie theatre, and hot tub. Possibly a bowling alley in the basement.
Look at mama bald eagle at the top of this nest - one of the biggest I’ve seen! Every year more sticks get added 😄👍 Tuesday 14 March 2023

This week, over 900 households in Sweetwater, Texas are getting handwritten letters from kids asking them to help stop the slaughter at their town's annual rattlesnake roundup. I was struck by this quote, which is 100% spot on. 1/6 – at Santa Margarita, CA

I think I have an addiction - I cannot stop photographing newts.... I don't want help or treatment, I just want more time to spend with them and to share them with other amphibian enthusiasts.

Is this newt taking a nap at the bottom of a pond? Dead? Nope! This female is laying eggs and attaching them to a bit of vegetation - the process takes a little while during which females stop moving and just lay on the bottom of the pond.

The only answer really is to live a life that's authentic to us and allow people to misunderstand us in the process Because they will anyway.
