What an Orwellian world we live in. Israel launches a clearly illegal and unprovoked attack on Iran, in violation of the U.N. charter, and with no imminent Iran attack in sight, or any Iranian nukes developed, and its western allies come out to say they reaffirm *Israel’s* right to defend itself, not Iran’s. The aggressor’s, not the victim of the illegal attack. This, I guess, is the west’s ’rules-based international order.’
France has repeatedly condemned Iran’s ongoing nuclear program and has taken all appropriate diplomatic measures in response. In this context, France reaffirms Israel’s right to defend itself and ensure its security. To avoid jeopardizing the stability of the entire region, I call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and to de-escalate. Following the Israeli strikes on Iran and its nuclear program, I convened the National Defence and Security Council this morning. All necessary steps will be taken to protect our nationals and our diplomatic and military missions in the region. All measures will also be implemented to ensure the protection of our national territory and our fellow citizens. France stands ready to work with all its partners to push for de- escalation in the Near and Middle East. Today, I spoke with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, the King of Jordan, the President of the United Arab Emirates, the Emir of Qatar, the German Chancellor, the British Prime Minister, and the President of the United States. Peace and security for all in the region must remain our guiding principle.

Cognitive dissonance. Right: Cute animals. Left: Same animals, but tortured, slaughtered, and stuffed in a bag, turned into snacks.

We lost little Paddington today. He’s an old street dog who had cancer and heart disease. Giving a dog a dignified send off is very important to us (1/6) 🧵

This was me 4 years ago. I was in ICU in hospital as I’d just nearly drunk myself to death. I’d been an alcoholic and suffered depression and anxiety for over 25 years. I’m completely sober now and wanted to share some learnings that may help someone (1/8) 🧵

Stop supporting this and start living plant based
Almost all livestock in the United States is factory-farmed— It’s difficult to quantify animal suffering in a single number, but one metric often used to measure living conditions is the number of animals raised on “factory farms”. Factory farms are defined as “concentrated animal feeding operations” where many animals are held in an intensive feeding operation for more than 45 days. 99% of livestock in the United States is factory-farmed. This latest estimate comes from the Sentience Institute and is based on definitions and data from the US Environment Protection Agency. The chart shows the share of different forms of livestock that are factory-farmed. More than 98% of chickens, turkeys, hens, pigs, and farmed fish are factory-farmed. Cows are a bit less likely to be factory-farmed, but three-quarters still spend much of their lives in these conditions. (This Daily Data Insight was written by @_HannahRitchie.)

When it comes to hobby hunting, there are almost no limits to the perversions with animals. Here, live ducks desperately scream in their cages, and their cries for help attract free ducks, who then fly over the territory of captive species to be shot.

The lowest of humanity is when we laugh at suffering of the most vulnerable. When we use our strength and power to exploit and abuse others. The turkey is innocent. It is we who must seek pardon for reducing sentient beings to mere commodities and resources. @GovTimWalz

From the USA 🇺🇸 to Yorkshire UK 🇬🇧 Birdwatchers flocked to a residential cu-de-sac after an ultra-rare species was spotted in Yorkshire for the first time. The bird is believed to be a scarlet tanager, which arrived in Shelf, near Halifax, after being blown off course by strong winds from a hurricane in North America.

Crazy you can just say things that go against scientific consensus, multiple systematic reviews, without a single shred of evidence & people just eat it up. This is the world we live in. Facts don’t matter. Truth doesn’t matter.
"Animals will not make any difference to global warming. It's irrelevant… I want to be super clear about this. You won't even be able to measure it, that's how irrelevant it is.” “Eat as much meat as you want. It’s not going to make a difference.” — Elon Musk

Man leaves dog tied up during hurricane. Gets arrested for aggravated animal cruelty, faces five years in prison. Farmers leave countless other animals trapped, doomed to drown during natural disasters. Get paid?

Can someone explain to me why it is good to be upset at someone eating a dog or a cat, but not if they are eating a pig or a chicken? I've been trying to find any important differences between those things but have come up empty so far. Anyone?
