I think it ought to be illegal for a company to make it a condition of your employment that you cannot, for the rest of your entire life, criticize the company.

That's astonishing progress, and proof that people absolutely can claw power back from Big Tech!

The coalition coming together to demand and build a better future than the one offered by AI companies is broad, and that is an immense strength.

That's a pretty huge conflict of interest, to say the least!

A Louisiana State Senator bought land next to what would become a $50 billion Meta data center.
Then, he sold it for a profit. He also signed an NDA with Meta about the whole process.
He's not alone. Politicians across the country are using their insider knowledge to profit off data centers.

It's pretty bleak when communities are pressured to accept all the harms of AI data centers just to afford basic services. Community benefit agreements are not nearly enough. We need a full moratorium on AI data centers! foodandwaterwatch.org/news/2…

Google workers are resigning over the company’s AI contracts with the military.
In the BBC article on this development, one employee alludes to Google contracts mandating that workers refrain from criticizing the company for the rest of their lives.

ALT Employees at Google have told the BBC that staff are scared to speak out about AI safety and its uses in warfare because their employment contracts prohibit them from publicly criticising the company. "In principle I'm not allowed to criticise Google for the duration of my life," Sofia Liguori told the BBC. But she decided to do so "because I believe it's important for these things to be known and I also think that talking about facts is not criticising".

YOU GET THE NOISE!
Beverly and Jeff Morris lived in peace and quiet on their beautiful farm before Meta broke ground on a data center complex next door. Now, they don't have clean drinking water and are dealing with constant noise pollution.
Stories like the Morrises are exactly why we need a Data Center Bill of Rights. The advancement of this technology cannot come at the sacrifice of hard-working Americans.
🚨 #TN09 don't let Silicon Valley tech bros write the rules and rig the system against the working class.

Improvement in air quality is so hard-won. It's beyond depressing for that progress to be undone by data centers.
Nearly 300 planned data centers threaten Texas’s air quality gains. Particulate pollution, considered among the deadliest forms of air pollution, could rise to levels not seen since 2006.

Bernie Sanders on data centers: “Folks are saying, ‘I don’t want this colossus in my backyard, it’s ugly, it’s disgusting, it’s taking farmland, destroying our environment, water, electric rates, noise, heat.’ That’s real. But I think in the back of the minds of many of these folks, they’re saying what the hell are we doing? What is this gonna contribute to? Is this gonna result in my kid not being able to have a job? Is this gonna result in my not having any privacy? Why am I aiding these large corporations owned by the wealthiest people in the world who could care less about me?”

Between higher utility bills, lower tax revenue, and more pollution, data centers are rarely a net positive for locals.
Instead of earning trust with transparency, Big Tech is trying to ram these projects through with as much secrecy as possible -- and people aren't having it!
👀 Big Tech’s rigged system. Socialized costs. Privatized profit. 💢
Greg Abbott celebrated Texas becoming the “epicenter of AI development.”
Now that he’s worried he’s about to lose his job, he’s scrambling to rein in those same data centers as Texans are fed up over electricity, water, and infrastructure concerns. Meanwhile, Texas is projected to lose $3.2 BILLION in sales-tax revenue over two years through data-center tax breaks.
The question isn’t whether Abbott welcomed the boom. He most definitely did. The question is why the safeguards came AFTER the boom was already underway.
The answer is in the polls.
