Yep. Four academic physicians DMed me today because they were too afraid to agree with me publicly.
Academic medicine is falling apart because institutional profit has taken priority over the academic mission.
And apparently, we’re not supposed to say that.

How about the “Dean’s Tax”, John? We don’t talk about it enough. I have heard of “Dean’s Tax” being double-digit percentages of faculty practice plan revenues, w/ attendings left scratching their heads about where these funds are ultimately spent.
With the full on assault by the health plans and the feds for that matter seeking to drive down physician reimbursements, does the “Dean’s Tax” get adjusted down accordingly? My guess is no.
Talk about a taboo subject however.

Everything we do at @NASA better pass the “What would Gene Kranz think of this?” test... and that is going to be especially important as we build the Mission Control of the Future to manage operations in LEO, the Moon Base and Beyond.

Twitter is now the smallest social media platform I have. It used to be the biggest. Every single account has overtaken it by magnitudes. It’s proof Elon musk has bought this site to turn it into a vanity project where criticism of him nukes your reach.

The Endeavour endeavor
As the only complete space shuttle went vertical in LA, let me share the photos I took inside to make a 360° virtual tour for the CSC museum exhibit: youtu.be/UeCqMPBddHg?si=o2Nx…
These four photos:
1) Pilot's Seat: I brought a special tripod rig and fisheye lens to get the 360 views. More: flickr.com/photos/jurvetson/…
2) Flight Deck, looking forward. It was bittersweet, seeing her displays lit up for the last time, just before they drained the essential cooling fluids from the orbiter, which is an irrevocable step. Like draining the lifeblood from the spacecraft.
3) Back of the Flight Deck, facing the Payload Bay. The windows are covered with light blocks. The ones on top look upward. The two smaller ones below look out to the payload bay, and the joysticks are for the boom and Canadarm, eh. Little blue velcro squares everywhere.
4) Payload Bay: The yellow bars are hand holds for zero-g EVA. I am on a lift soaring above it at this point, like being on the end of the Canadarm. So, I took a video: youtu.be/5uIgwtOeI4w?si=Q3Ci… and youtube.com/watch?v=rC0PkD5u… More bay photos: flic.kr/p/bLAG1e and flickr.com/photos/jurvetson/…
Soon the public will get to see Endeavour's fully erect glory at the California Science Center.
