Good luck #22
Good luck to our middle daughter and the Southern Union Bison 🦬 today as they compete in their second jamboree at the CB Hoops/Porter Sports event in Carrollton, GA! Nearly 30 NCAA D1, D2, etc coaches under one roof! Great opportunity and an outstanding event!

I have a HUGE PET PEEVE! I know some of y’all are gonna call me crazy, but hear me out… If we’re genuinely cool, talk all the time, and have built a real relationship outside of basketball…PLEASE stop calling me “Coach.” If we only talk every once in a while or strictly deal with each other through basketball, cool—I get it. But if we talk regularly and I consider you a friend, why are you still calling me “Coach”? I don’t know, man…that’s low-key a red flag to me. 🚩It makes me feel like you don’t really look at me as a true friend. Like there’s still this little professional boundary up between us. Maybe I’m trippin, but that’s definitely one of my pet peeves!

The Buckeye State Blast extends our thoughts and prayers to the family of Megan Kennedy. Megan truly loved basketball and was a well-known fixture on the AAU circuit in Northeast Ohio, helping out a number of clubs over the years. schermesserfh.com/obituaries…

Most of you know me as a basketball Founder, Director, and Coach, but I’ve also been a nurse for 15+ years! I highly recommend that more MEN consider nursing! Sorry, ladies, there are enough of y’all in the business already 😂😂😂😂 Nursing has allowed me to provide for and raise my daughters while having the flexibility to coach AAU and school basketball and still attend a lot of their school events and activities. Fellas, if you’re looking for a career with good pay, flexibility, and plenty of opportunities, give nursing a serious look!

I’ve been involved in girls basketball for close to two decades, and one thing I’ve noticed is that a large amount of players NOT ALL, of course will choose a college 6 hours or less of home. Throughout their college careers, many women’s basketball players want to stay close to family, and some will even transfer closer to home during their 4/5 years of college basketball. So when choosing AAU circuits and tournaments, be careful about breaking the bank!!! You may travel 7+ hours for tournaments, spend money on hotels, food, gas, and entry fees, but there’s a good chance your daughter will ultimately attend a college much closer to home. I don’t know nearly as much statistically about boys AAU basketball, so I’d love to hear from some of the boys coaches. Is it similar on the boys side?

FINAL HS AAU TRYOUT TOMORROW EVENING! Here’s a sneak peek at our schedule and approach for the 2027 season! The majority of our tournaments from the end of March through the third week of May will be 2 hours or less in travel time for example, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Cleveland, etc. We want our players to be able to attend other sports and important school obligations, including track, flag football, softball, prom, graduation, state testing, and more. We encourage and support multi-sport athletes! We’re also trying to avoid players and parents having to miss work or school on Fridays whenever possible. In July, we will attend the Run 4 Roses tournament as usual, which will be our farthest tournament of the season. Hope to see you all tomorrow evening! Feel free to invite a friend💜
