❌ TI WEST WEDNESDAY ❌
This week, we celebrate a special TI WEST WEDNESDAY in honor of our NEW EPISODE on his X Trilogy.
Ti West has quietly become one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary horror. In reaction to the “torture porn”era of the 2000s (like the Saw movies), West prioritizes mood, craft, and tension over cheap jumps.
In the X trilogy, working with Mia Goth, West shot X (1970s Texas slasher-style) and its prequel Pearl (1918 technicolor-style origin story) back-to-back in New Zealand during lockdown, then followed with the 1980s-style Hollywood thriller MaXXXine. The result is a stylish, era-spanning saga about fame, desire, and violence that elevated both West and Goth.
He treats each film as its own aesthetic experiment—gritty 16mm, saturated Hollywood Golden Age, or neon ’80s excess—while still tying them together thematically.
That’s rare, and in our latest episode, we debate whether it works, or whether the ideal horror movie is somewhere in-between West’s story-heavy aesthetic and Damien Leone’s gory slasher films (the Terrifier trilogy).

It isn’t a horror movie unless there’s sexy women and a big fat croc.

🥈 HAPPY TWOS-DAY!!🥈
On Twos-days, we celebrate the second movies in a trilogy.
This week’s feature: PEARL, the second movie in the X Trilogy (actually the prequel to X)
Ti West and Mia Goth deliver a lush, disturbing origin story set in 1918 Texas: a young farm girl with starry-eyed dreams of Hollywood who slowly unravels under isolation, repression, and rejection.
The saturated colors, the pitchfork dance, the long monologue, and that final smile stay with you. It was shot back-to-back with X and helps explain the crazy old lady version of Pearl we meet in X in 1979.

You know, a live action series about the actual artists secretly being ninjas that team up to fight crime in Renaissance Italy would go so hard.
Of course, if you’re just looking for the real thing, you’re still in luck.
Vin and Scott (and guest host Phil) are Middle-Aged Normal Podcaster Humans who head to the sewers for the original live-action TMNT trilogy:
