I've been asked what Ice-Cold Intel actually does. This. Most news aggregators count logos. We're counting voices. At first glance this looks like 17 independent outlets covering a story. In reality, some belong to the same media chains syndicating the same content across multiple properties. Less noise. More signal. 🥶 crankycartoons . com/intel

The lesson from Serbia is that when no party represents the people, you can build your own alternative even if it takes years of community assemblies, organizing and resistance to severe state repression. Democracy and justice are fragile; it takes the utmost strength to keep them alive.
Serbia’s student-led movement has delivered a historic election upset, ending 14 years of rule by Aleksandar Vučić’s party. Millions celebrated across Serbia and Europe.

Because @AndreaHorwath promised Hamilton’s best years were ahead and then went to Italy, brought back a picture of a garbage can and her work went down from there. She had no vision, barely showed up and let people down. It was a waste of 4 years and many suffered as a result.
Hamilton voters show they were serious about wanting big change at city hall, writes @radleyatthespec. Nearly three quarters of those who casted ballots opted for something different than what they’d had for the past four years. thespec.com/news/municipal-e…

They leave... But they never really just go away, eh?
I think it has to be said. Of course we're happy Eby lost. Anyone with a functioning brain knew he had to go. So, Amen to that! But understanding what really happened in this election takes the use of that same functioning brain. Calling this BC’s first conservative government in almost 100 years ignores the obvious: that the Christy Clark Liberals are back, this time dressed in blue instead of red. Let's not forget that Christy Clark's Liberals became so unpopular that voters turned to the NDP. So it feels a lot like we've swapped the same old for, well, the same old. I like Lorne, a former BC Liberal himself, and I'm willing to give him a chance. But let's call it what it is. I'll judge this BC Liberal 2.0 government by its actions and results, and I sincerely hope those reflect the promises made to voters. Truth should come before narrative. The media pundits, and plenty of others, should try it sometime.

Last night, the people of Mississauga made their choice. I congratulate @AlvinTedjo on his victory and on the honour of becoming our city’s next mayor. Alvin, your energy, your enthusiasm and the joy you bring to politics matter. You have inspired people to get involved and to believe they can help shape this city’s future. That is something to be proud of. Now, a new generation takes the reins. I wish Alvin and the incoming Council every success. I love Mississauga, and I will be cheering for our city to succeed under his leadership. To our campaign team, volunteers, donors and everyone who put their faith in us: thank you. To my family: thank you for your love and for standing beside me through everything. I have spoken about perseverance throughout this campaign. Today, those words are harder to say. But they matter just as much: when you get knocked down, you get back up again. Serving Mississauga has been the honour of my life. Thank you for that privilege, and for your friendship and for the opportunity to be part of this city’s story. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. #onpoli #cdnpoli

NEW: BC Conservatives brought in a priest to exorcise bad spirits before election night at Rocky Mountaineer Station. Same venue where Kerry-Lynne Findlay was crowned leader months ago, right before her disastrous run. Divine intervention clearly worked. #bcpoli #cdnpoli

But WHY did you, for years, fail to fulfill your duty? WHY did you keep silent, turn a blind eye, report events one-sidedly, and fail to ask the necessary questions? WHO made it such? HOW? Yes, you owe your viewers an apology But you also owe them the full story #Serbia ❤️
📺 “We reported events one-sidedly for years”: Serbian TV apologizes to viewers after Vučić's party loses the election Radio Television of Vojvodina (RTV) opened its news broadcast with footage of celebrations following the Student List's election victory — scenes it had failed to show the previous evening. “For years, we failed to fulfill our duty. We kept silent, turned a blind eye, reported events one-sidedly, and failed to ask the necessary questions. For that, we owe our viewers an apology,” news anchor Goran Eror said. Following the controversy, RTV's acting editor-in-chief Nenad Čačić resigned. A similar incident occurred in Hungary, where state television also apologized to viewers after Viktor Orbán's election defeat.

Best guess: Anybody who knew her as a New Democrat didn't see enough of a trace of it in her mayorship (and as such, she never lived up their expectations)
Can someone explain to me why is Andrew Horwath, the incumbent mayor of Hamilton is so unpopular?
