Kathy Bates says she was sure she never thanked her mother in her Misery Oscar speech, then the interviewer showed her the tape
"She gave up her retirement because I was born so late in life to them."
"When I won the Oscar for Misery, she said, I don't know what all the excitement about, you didn't discover the cure for cancer."
"Why did I think I didn't thank her?"
"Because she should have had my life."
"I wanted her spirit to come into me and enjoy everything I was enjoying because of what she'd given up."
Her mom's whole review of the Oscar was that she didn't cure cancer, and Kathy still believed she had shorted her that night. Then she watches herself thank her mom at home, right there in the speech. Some people never stop trying to pay their parents back. You can hear it in how quiet she gets at the end.

You. 😭😭😭 the financialisation of our economy is going to come back and kick us in the ass. Seems everyone and their mother is launching a “fintech” company whose primary business model is (predatory) lending in a society that’s already heavily indebted. 💔
Former rugby player Bryan Habana says his fintech company, Paymenow, is meant to address worker issues including money running out shortly after pay day. 🎥 Boitumelo Kgobotlo

Growing up is an absurdly long series of funerals for things we weren’t ready to lose.
Wow.
No words.
My five year old daughter lost a tooth tonight and cried because she said her tooth had always been hers and now it was gone. She looked in the mirror and asked me if I could put it back. I’m constantly amazed by her beautiful soul and awareness. Five years on this earth and she already knows what it feels like to grieve something that used to be part of you. I had to hug her for a very long time. And now I’m sitting here thinking about how growing up is just an absurdly long series of tiny funerals for pieces of ourselves we weren’t ready to lose.
Ahhhh...right right right. I get it.
Well, I already knew, but I just needed to hear it from the horses mouth.
Nobody believes in kolekaring more than my Kenyan colleagues😅 whether someone is having a baby, has just had the baby, is getting married or lost a relative, and whether you know the person or not, the expectation is that every single one of us will contribute to them.
I’m so glad this is a story!👏🏾 The way traditional beliefs and stigmas impact healthcare is crazy. Remember funding a training to train traditional healers to do proper breast cancer screening and identify cervical cancer warning signs to refer them and we saw such an impact.
A female farm worker diagnosed with cervical cancer abandoned hospital treatment after her husband warned that removing her womb would affect their sex life. She is now back on a farm near Hoedspruit, Limpopo, where persistent bleeding has left her struggling to work.

I’m always in disbelief when they credit our legal protections for the LGBT+ community to white people when it was literally illegal to be queer under apartheid. It was Black people who fought for queer rights to be constitutionally enshrined
