The purpose of a family meeting is not to change their mind or sway them to one way or another, but to make sure they truly understand what they are choosing.

People with disabilities make better doctors and are valuable to healthcare, so we should provide them with the disability accommodations they need.

I heard a consulting clinician tell me recently that a patient’s care was “approaching futility,” so I thought it fair to re-post this reminder that the F-word is perceived very differently by patients and providers (and rarely builds bridges at the bedside). #hapc #MedTwitter

When a patient or family decide to stop life-sustaining treatment bc the underlying illness is advancing & quality of life is poor:
This is not suicide
This is not murder
This is not medically assisted death
This IS allowing natural dying.

People….bring the essence of YOU to your doctor appointments!!!
What is most important to you?
Who are you?
What wouldn’t you trade off for anything?
What are your biggest fears?
Make sure your doctor knows YOU…not just your illness!!!

Lots of perspectives here. One I’d add: people don’t become burdens. They carry burdens that may be too heavy for them to bear alone, too heavy even for their family to bear with them. But that doesn’t make them the burden. #hapc

"Doctors said that some Black patients, especially those who are uninsured or far from hospitals, wait too long before seeking help to benefit from new treatments."
The problem is not Black patients "waiting too long." It's lack of access, SDOH, & injustices that break trust.
