From our post speech event with @UCLPolicyLab yesterday, word cloud of the contents of Burnham speech. Said yesterday it could have been framed as a social democrat version of Take Back Control, and both words featured a lot, if not together!

NEW: In new MRP polling of more than 10,000 voters – seen by the Guardian – Andy Burnham has received a bounce of six points in voting intention compared with mid-June, taking Labour to 26%, ahead of Reform on 23%.

“It’s your last chance saloon! Don’t waste it mate!” After the broadcast vans rolled away from Makerfield, we went back to speak to voters in the soon to be PM’s seat about what they actually wanted from a new Government. The overwhelming message was act quick.
🧵In the Sunday Times. @lara_spirit covers our deep dive with @UCLPolicyLab into what people want from Burnham's premiership. We find the new PM is likely to have a limited honeymoon, that public desire for radical change has grown since July 24 and cost of living is the key test
🆕 @Moreincommon_ /@UCLPolicyLab poll for @thetimes finds @AndyBurnhamGM leading the race in the Makerfield by-election but over 1 in 10 still undecided about their vote and Restore Britain currently saving their deposit. Andy Burnham on track for Makerfield win — thanks to Restore Britain

Exclusive from @patrickkmaguire
Restore Britain is set to hand Andy Burnham the victory in Makerfield, according to a poll of the constituency that will electrify the final days of the by-election campaign.
The mayor of Greater Manchester is five points ahead of Reform UK in a race that remains too close for comfort with less than a week until ballots are cast, a survey by More in Common and the UCL Policy Lab suggests.
It shows Labour’s lead over Nigel Farage’s candidate, Robert Kenyon — 45 per cent to 40 per cent — is smaller than the 8 per cent share for Restore Britain, the hard-right party led by Rupert Lowe, with more than one in ten voters yet to decide how to vote.

🧵Our work with @UCLPolicyLab has looked at the crisis of respect in politics, people don’t feel our political class respects them or their communities. A previous focus group in Makerfield found the sense of disrespect was acute & a feeling the PM embodied that lack of respect

What Labour types are talking about today, in between bouts of existential angst - a so-called “respect crisis” among the public.
