MINERAL WEALTH CONFERENCE 2026 CONCLUDES WITH RENEWED COMMITMENT TO TRANSFORM UGANDA’S MINING SECTOR
Speaking at the closure, Hon. @PNyamutoro, Minister of State @MEMD_Uganda, appreciated delegates and stakeholders for participating in the 15th Annual Mineral Wealth Conference 2026.
She noted that minerals contribute about 2.2% to Uganda’s GDP and highlighted government efforts to strengthen the sector through improved licensing, financing, formalisation of artisanal and small-scale mining, environmental compliance and value addition.
The Minister reaffirmed the role of @UNMC_Uganda in promoting commercial participation, value addition and partnerships with investors.
She said the Ministry would treat the conference recommendations as a working agenda, with progress to be reported at the next edition, while strengthening geological data, analytical laboratories, Ugandan participation across the value chain and responsible mine closure.
Uganda’s High Commissioner @UGHighCommDAR, Amb. (Rtd) Col. Fred Mwesigye, commended the Uganda Chamber of Energy and Minerals for convening a global platform that brought together stakeholders from across Africa and beyond.
Drawing on Uganda–Tanzania experiences, he called for greater regional cooperation, value addition, technology transfer and shared infrastructure to ensure Africa’s mineral wealth drives investment, industrialisation and opportunities for its youth.

It was a pleasure meeting General Caleb Akandwanaho (Salim Saleh), Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC).
We discussed investment, industrialisation and opportunities across #Uganda and #Tanzania, including recycling and local manufacturing, digital connectivity and food security — areas with the potential to create jobs, reduce reliance on imports and add greater value to what we produce in Africa.
Across East Africa, we have the resources, markets and capacity to achieve much more together. I have always believed that Africans will build Africa — by investing in one another and building the industries that will move our continent forward.
Thank you, General Salim Saleh and the OWC team, for a productive exchange.
