As global challenges mount and resources shrink, effective and impactful multilateral cooperation is needed more than ever.
Excellent interactions with Denmark’s Foreign Minister @larsloekke and fellow members of the @UNCityCPH leadership team to mark this week’s 🇺🇳 Day.
With colleagues from across the UN, a powerful moment to reflect on our shared commitment to the UN Charter, and what’s needed to deliver tangible results for the people we serve, and the planet we all call home.
The innovation, technical expertise and cooperation in Copenhagen and the broader Nordic region can be an inspiration and a great resource, as the UN works to be more agile and efficient, to meet the mega challenges the world is facing.

Recent climate-driven disasters around the world have shown so clearly that the impacts of climate change are only growing in frequency and intensity, and having a devastating toll on vulnerable communities.
Limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees was never an arbitrary target. It was a scientific limit, to avoid the worst impacts of this crisis.
The latest #EmissionsGap Report from @UNEP makes it abundantly clear: to avoid a total climate catastrophe, we must double down on the Paris Agreement commitments and do everything we can to minimize the magnitude of the overshoot.
Cutting emissions, scaling up renewable energy capacity, and building resilience are possible – and urgent.
With #COP31 around the corner, we must reckon with our climate-reality and accelerate climate action.
UNEP's latest #EmissionsGap Report is out today.
How far off are we from the Paris Agreement goals? What will it take to bring the planet's temperature back down? And what progress have we made so far?

Denmark is a strong supporter of multilateral cooperation and a steadfast partner of @UNOPS and the UN 🇺🇳 🇩🇰
As we mark UN Day this week, I had an excellent exchange @UNCityCPH with Foreign Minister @larsloekke on the impact of our partnership.
It’s making a tangible difference for people in need, including communities on the frontlines affected by the ongoing war in #Ukraine.
I thanked the Minister for Denmark's close cooperation and engagement with the UN to address key global challenges – tackling inequalities, advancing climate action and sustainable development.
I look forward to us expanding the UNOPS - @DanishMFA partnership.
Across Asia, including in challenging contexts, @UNOPS and the @ADB_HQ have developed a strong partnership that’s delivering tangible results in areas like health and governance.
I had a very productive meeting with @ADBPresident Masato Kanda in Manila, to reflect on the impact of our work together, and explore new areas of cooperation.
I am delighted to have signed a new framework agreement between our organizations to continue this partnership, with a particular focus on addressing needs in fragile and conflict-affected situations, and Small Island Developing States.
Looking forward to building on what we’ve achieved together!
I was pleased to meet with Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento, Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, here in Manila 🇵🇭
We discussed the impact of @UNOPS work with @peacegovph and partners in support of the peace and transition process in the Bangsamoro region.
As this crucial work continues, UNOPS is ready to scale up our partnership to advance the progress made, and help turn peacebuilding ambitions into tangible development outcomes for communities in the region – with stronger institutions and sustainable infrastructure.
In the #Philippines’ Marawi City, 'Ground Zero' is a powerful reminder of the lives, livelihoods, homes and heritage that were lost or affected by the 2017 Marawi Siege. But it’s also a testament to the extraordinary determination of the affected people.
It was incredibly moving to visit – alongside the @EUAmbPH Massimo Santoro and representatives of civil society – the most affected area of the 2017 siege, to reflect on the devastation the tragic event caused, but also on the progress that’s been made since, towards helping people recover and rebuild their lives.
Together with communities and our partners, @UNOPS is deeply committed to supporting peacebuilding, sustainable recovery, and post-conflict rehabilitation efforts.
As recovery continues, locally-owned actions, sustainable infrastructure, and stronger institutions are helping to rebuild trust and lay the foundations for a more peaceful and prosperous future for people in Marawi and broadly in Bangsamoro.
Visiting ‘Ground Zero’ of the 2017 Marawi Siege was a powerful reminder of the lasting impact such a tragic event has had on communities.
The Marawi Compensation Board is a critical part of their recovery – supporting families to rebuild their lives after loss and trauma.
I was pleased to take part in the launch of an initiative – supported by @UNOPS in cooperation with the Bangsamoro Government and our partners – that will enable the Board to respond to claims in support of justice and accountability.
Very pleased to participate in the handover of the new Peace & Mediation Center for the Ministry of Public Order and Safety, here in Marawi.
Alongside our partners @EUinthePH & @AECID_es, @UNOPS teams did the design and construction of this facility, which will help strengthen local institutional capacity for peacebuilding, conflict resolution and much needed reconciliation, across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Mindanao.
The facility creates a safe space for communities in support of sustaining long lasting peace🕊️
Great to catch up with @EUAmbPH Massimo Santoro here in Marawi, Bangsamoro today.
@UNOPS and the 🇪🇺 EU have forged a strong partnership in the #Philippines that’s delivering impact, with a focus on building institutional capacity, advancing governance and justice reforms, and promoting peace.
Looking ahead, we discussed how we can build on this partnership to support shaping a more peaceful and prosperous future for people across the country – including through basic services using renewable energy, health and education infrastructure, and improved digital connectivity.
Standing amid the devastation in #Nepal, seeing the impacts of the floods and mudslides firsthand, was deeply sobering.
Over 1,500 lives lost. More than 5,000 missing. Homes, bridges, energy facilities, decimated. Around 100,000 people affected.
Make no mistake: This was not a local incident. It was a climate-driven catastrophe.
Nepal contributes a tiny fraction of the world's greenhouse gas emissions, yet is directly bearing the brunt of the climate crisis.
This is a defining moment. As communities begin the long road to recovery, Nepal is counting on us all to help the country rebuild.
The international community must renew its climate commitments and bring a renewed solidarity with developing countries to help build resilience, mobilize climate finance, and support critical adaptation and mitigation efforts.
@UNOPS and the @UN system are ready to scale up our support and deliver for the people of #Nepal.
Supporting #Nepal in the aftermath of the devastating flash floods and mudslides is a matter of justice. This was, without doubt, a climate-driven disaster not of Nepal's making.
From Kathmandu, I spoke with @NTVWORLDNEPAL on how the international community must reckon with the new climate-reality that's before us: working in partnership and solidarity to honour global climate commitments, and help frontline communities build long-term climate resilience.

Surrounded by devastation in Rasuwa and Nuwakot, #Nepal, I spoke with @CNNi's @BrianAbelTV on the colossal scale of destruction caused by the flash floods and mudslides, and the impact on local communities:
👉 1,500 people lost their lives and 5,600+ missing
👉 80 bridges and 13 hydro power dams destroyed
👉 2.2 Million tonnes of debris and sediments
The recovery and climate-resilient reconstruction of Nepal requires 4.8 billion dollars. Nepal – which only emits 0.08% of global GHG – can’t pay alone the recovery from a massive climate disaster that it’s not responsible for.
The international community must step up to help people recover and rebuild. It's a defining moment.
@UNOPS, alongside all UN system, is ready to scale-up our efforts.
Watch my full interview 👇
The scale of damage from #Nepal’s recent flash floods and mudslides is vast, with an estimated $5 billion needed to support recovery and reconstruction of homes, roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure.
In Kathmandu today, I held productive discussions with Foreign Minister @shisir on the immense task ahead, with a focus on the technical support and long-term resources Nepal needs to prepare for future climate shocks.
I reaffirmed @UNOPS readiness to scale up our partnership with the government to help communities mitigate risks and build climate-resilience – including through multilateral partnerships, such as the UNOPS-hosted Santiago Network.
@MofaNepal
Just landed in Nepal to engage locally after the recent tragic flash floods which took the lives of 1500 people (and 5000
still missing) and massively destroyed basic infrastructure. I will meet the government and the population to express solidarity and @UNOPS readiness to support Nepal on recovery and climate-resilient reconstruction.
Nepal is responsible for less than 0,08% global greenhouse gas emissions and has been tragically devastated by climate change. Global solidarity can’t fail in this defining moment for the country.
It was great to connect with @UNOPS colleagues in Bangkok 🇹🇭 from the Asia Pacific Regional Office @UNOPS_AsiaPac at margins of WB/IMF Annual Meetings. From supply chain disruptions to the urgent need for climate resilience, their work matters more than ever providing practical solutions. Also glad to meet our Global Shared Services Centre team which plays a crucial supporting all UNOPS teams across 130 countries as well as our partners.
