Sometimes, the most important lesson a child learns is that life can still be kind after it has been cruel. That is what makes Adani Foundation’s Project Utthan worth talking about. Pratik Mukhiya, a Class 3 student in Mumbai, was trying to return to school after a devastating fire took his father’s life. Learning was no longer just about books. He needed time, reassurance and someone who understood his pain. Bhurabai Choure, an Utthan Sahayak, chose to rebuild his confidence and trust instead of simply pushing him to study. With her support, Pratik gradually found his way back to his friends, his lessons and the childhood he deserved. Adani Foundation began Project Utthan in 2018 with 17 schools. Today, it reaches around 1.8 lakh students across five states through more than 1,200 schools. In Mumbai, the programme supports over 1.40 lakh children across 947 municipal schools. The reported Level 5 reading outcomes also improved, with figures moving from 15% and 21% to 25% and 32% across Classes 1 to 4 between September 2025 and March 2026. Behind every number is a child who deserves the chance to move forward.
