When you arrive in the United States through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP), a Local Resettlement Provider Case Manager will meet you at the airport or arrange for your U.S. contact to pick you up.
Your case manager will provide basic initial resettlement support as you begin settling into your new community.
Case managers come from diverse backgrounds and may be of any race, religion, ethnicity, or country of origin. Some may even be former refugees themselves.

It is regrettable that South African policies led to the termination of AGOA for South Africa. This was a predictable and preventable outcome resulting from the rejection by South Africa's government of real concerns raised by the U.S. Government. I remain hopeful that we can find a path forward to address our larger bilateral concerns, but the South African government must understand the gravity of the situation. We know that if America succeeds, so too will South Africa. This is the partnership I will continue to pursue as expeditiously as possible.

Great to see first-hand the big wins for American companies in South Africa. At Traxtionโs Rosslyn facility, I was impressed by Traxtionโs refurbishment of 46 U.S.-built @WabtecCorp locomotives that are modernizing South Africaโs rail systems. American companies are the gold standard when it comes to bringing quality technology, creating jobs and increasing prosperity. There is much more we can accomplish behind the power of American businesses.

I admire the strong work by the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber supporting business in the metro, especially American businesses and those who want to work with them.

The Department of Homeland Securityโs U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is the decision-making authority for all applications for refugee status in the United States. The U.S. Department of Stateโincluding the U.S. Mission in South Africaโand RSC Africa do not make refugee-status decisions.
โณ There is no guaranteed processing timeline. USCIS case review and security vetting continue until a refugee arrives in the United States. This means a case status may changeโeven shortly before travelโbecause of new information, new adjudication requirements, or other factors.
Applicants should plan for long processing periods and possible changes in case status.
If USCIS finds an applicant ineligible for continued resettlement processing, RSC Africa and the U.S. Embassy or Consulates in South Africa cannot change the decision or provide additional information. There is no appeal process for these findings.

I met with Dhundup Gyalpo, the Dalai Lamaโs representative for Africa, and heard firsthand of the terrible attack against the Office of Tibet on October 14, the second attack in three months.ย I strongly condemn this apparently politically motivated attack, which fits a broader pattern of transnational repression against Tibetans worldwide.ย ย I also express my full support to the Office of Tibet and my expectation that the South African authorities expeditiously find, arrest, and hold to account the perpetrators.
