USFWS Fire (Archived) retweeted
The U.S. Wildland Fire Service represents a historic modernization of wildfire management within the @Interior.
By unifying wildland fire management across @BIAFireForestry, @BLMFire, @FireAviationNPS, Office of Aviation Services, @DOIWildlandFire, and @USFWSFire, the Interior Department is building a more efficient, effective wildfire response system that it is better equipped to protect lives, communities, and ecosystems.
USWFS by the numbers:
✔Provides wildland fire management on over 500 million acres of public and tribal lands.
✔Employs 5,780 federal wildland fire personnel annually.
✔Supports approximately 900 tribal wildland fire personnel.

Last week, @FLForestService and @USFWS conducted the annual Blue Ribbon Staff Ride in #Florida. The staff ride reflects on the 2011 #BlueRibbonFire (rapidly changing conditions led to two line-of-duty deaths) to strengthen decision-making and wildland fire safety.

You don’t have to be a firefighter to keep your home safe from 🔥
Homeowners & communities play a large role in fire safety. Make sure fire hydrants are visible/accessible, clear flammable vegetation around structures, keep roadways clear.

Smoke management is critical when applying #RXFire near populated areas. At Merritt Island NWR (FL), burns must account for a spaceport, DoD facilities, major roads, waterways, cruise ships, and busy beaches. Every ignition decision matters.

Exciting news! @Interior is taking the next step to implement the U.S. Wildland Fire Service by welcoming Chief Brian Fennessy to lead WFS with the vision of unifying wildland fire management across Interior’s bureaus and offices.
Wildfire doesn’t discriminate. It impacts rural towns & major cities, businesses & families alike. Thanks to @POTUS’ leadership, @Interior is taking decisive steps to strengthen coordination & preparedness as we confront an escalating wildfire challenge. doi.gov/pressreleases/interi…
Creation of the WFS will position Interior to meet evolving wildfire challenges and support a more coordinated and effective approach to safeguarding people, landscapes, and natural resources.
