This is the nature of crypto people. I did a 6 million dollar free airdrop a few years ago, to thousands of people. Each person received $20,000 per head, on average. It was 100% free and gifted personally Want to know what happened... - A large % of people raged because their free money went down in value. E.g. they received 20,000 and it later went down to 10,000, they were in my DMs enraged about their 20,000 dollars in free money had lost value because they'd held it, treating it as their real 10,000 dollar loss and directing anger/blame to me because of it - Almost nobody was thankful for this free money, at the time or later - Almost nobody actively helped the project succeed - I distributed it personally and with the help of about 10 people. Several of the people I trusted to distribute tokens stole it all, sending it to their own wallets, while telling me they'd sent it to unique people, but later sent it to the same endpoints / exchange memo addresses that matched their own original wallet. One was sneaky enough to steal ~$100,000 from me. They attempted to obfuscate the trail, but AI recently got good enough to sleuth all of it - The core principle of the project was that to honor the gift, it would be good if you distribute a small % of what you receive, to carry on the gift chain. In total, only 2% of people gifted more than $0 of their own holdings in total, despite receiving $20k. And those giving >25% can be counted on one hand, out of thousands. The amount who bought tokens specifically to gift others is even smaller, and around 3 - Even though I made zero from the entire thing (it was an art experiment, with absolutely all wallets and identities tracked) I was still blamed for the price action resulting from these same people mass selling their airdrops, called a scammer, etc, despite doing the entire vision and execution for nothing Effectively I naively exchanged my own social capital for thousands of peoples enrichment, while signing up to receive endless blame/hate, for doing an art experiment that made zero profit I recently did a 500 hour AI analysis of this entire project, tracing all endpoints and all the outcomes if you're curious to see This was one of the first things I did in crypto and taught me a lot about the nature of it + the people here Even if you do everything 100% right and benevolently, you'll be treated exactly the same way than if you had not. And often far worse Those calling others scammers would do it in a heartbeat if they were in the position to do so. Even if you extended financial generosity towards them, they'd never reciprocate. 99% of hate/blame is internally generated and has nothing to do with you. And likewise, the biggest real scammers consistently generate the most attention and are scarcely, if never, punished for it
