You asked. We answer.
Think of an appeal as a review, not a do-over.
Utah’s appellate courts—the Utah Court of Appeals and Utah Supreme Court—review the record created in the lower court and consider the legal issues raised on appeal.
The judges examine the record and written arguments from the parties and, in some cases, hear oral argument. Their job is to determine whether the law was applied correctly and whether an identified error was significant enough to affect the case.
Appellate decisions also help interpret Utah law and provide guidance for courts, attorneys and the public in future cases.

🎤 60 seconds. 33 organizations. One VERY creative tradition. The One-Minute Blitz at the 8th Annual Access to Justice Summit was just too good not to share a few highlights! Each organization had just 60 seconds to give its best pitch—who they are, what they do, and who they serve—for a chance to win one of three $1,000 grants. And somehow, the creativity gets better every year. From clever pitches to memorable performances, our Utah access-to-justice community definitely understood the assignment.
👏 A huge thank you to all participants who stepped up to the mic and made this year's Blitz so much fun.
We’re already wondering: How are you going to top this in 2027?
