The idea that our health care system was humming on all cylinders prior to 2010 is some wild revisionist history.

Vaccines do not cause autism. Neither does acetaminophen (Tylenol) use in pregnancy. Decades of rigorous science have disproven these myths. Spreading them puts public health at risk. The AAFP is committed to science and supporting families. Read our full statement here: bit.ly/48AlBZE

"Family physicians join individuals with autism and their families and caregivers in wanting to fully understand the causes of autism, why the prevalence of autism is increasing and how to support individuals with autism. Continuing to promote myths about a vaccine-autism or acetaminophen-autism distracts from research and resources that will benefit people living with autism."

Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., committed to protecting the nation’s scientific and public health infrastructure. Today, we are left with a damaged public health system and an immunization review process devoid of experts and evidence.
We are calling on the President to re-evaluate Secretary Kennedy’s ability to serve in his current capacity. We also urge Congress to consider all options available to them to address the leadership void at the HHS. bit.ly/41Lghyy

There has been an escalating conversation regarding the low-supply/pipeline of primary care physicians in the U.S. This is a real problem, and it deserves more attention and more urgency.
What is missing from our discussions are some hard truths about the performance of U.S. medical schools and their inability to meet the workforce needs of the states and communities they serve. Primary care represents about 11% of the US physician workforce. Most workforce experts believe this number needs to be closer to 30%. Unfortunately, only 27% of US medical schools meet this threshold.
We need to improve the practice environment and increase investment in primary care - no question. However, medical schools are not innocent bystanders, and we should expect more from them.
If we are serious about meeting the primary care needs of current and future generations, we need our medical schools to become more serious partners in these efforts and, we should not rule out performance thresholds that tie funding to primary care output.

Since we passed the Affordable Care Act, Republicans have tried over and over to repeal it. And over and over, they’ve failed — in part because millions of people now depend on the ACA for quality, affordable health care.
Now Republicans are trying something different: quietly weakening the law and hoping you won’t notice. We can’t let them.

Medicaid cuts don’t just affect some—they affect us all. It means fewer kids get vaccines, fewer parents get mental health care, fewer women get prenatal visits, & more face medical debt. @AmerAcadPeds, @the_aafp, @acog_org & @acpimphysicians urge Congress: protect Medicaid.

The author of this article is a frontline family physician in Alaska who understands the role Medicaid plays in his state and community. He is not a political operative, but a practicing family physician on the frontline of our health care system. His words are important:
"If Congress truly wants to improve the system, let’s invest in primary care. Let’s fix the broken payment model that rewards volume over value. Let’s build a system where we keep people well, instead of bankrupting them when they get sick. But let’s not pretend that slashing Medicaid is good policy. It’s not. It’s cruelty, dressed up as reform."

Medicaid isn’t a handout; it’s a lifeline that is critical to your patients and your practices. AAFP president @mrsbrull joined leaders from @AmerAcadPed, @ACPIMPhysicians, and @acog with a message to Congress: Primary care matters. Medicaid matters. And our patients’ lives matter. Don’t cut Medicaid. bit.ly/4jKwES4

More than 98% of families in this country choose to vaccinate their young children. But now, vaccine policy is being shaped by the small, extreme minority that doesn’t. This decision doesn’t reflect, protect or support families.
