A white person is telling me (a white person) that the brutal & systematic murder of a Black person—that would have been sanctioned by Memphis Pd if there weren’t video or perhaps if the cops weren’t Black—is “not the time” to use my privilege & platform to speak out. I disagree.

The response to the murder of Tyre Nichols is an example of the misled thinking that more diversity equals systemic change. Black police do NOT fix the problem of the violent and racist systemic infrastructure of the criminal legal system. The system itself must change.
