What does a sprig of alfalfa have to do with soil building? . . I set off on a side quest late last November to learn more about making regenerative agriculture happen at scale. . . What I really wanted to do was get a feel for what components and proces… ift.tt/2Ur6ies

"I planted these, but I didn't grow these." . . I could wax poetic about my work as a gardener and say "I grew these in a month with minimal irrigation", but the reality of this project is that someone else has been dedicating their energy to the space I… ift.tt/2VRPRda

Ahhhh you guys! I've been so bad about posting updates on Instagram lately because I don't have wifi at home. 😂 . . I mean don't get me wrong, it's pretty glorious being disconnected for hours if not days at a time, but still... gonna try to get into… ift.tt/2HS1Mj9

"What do I need in a space?" . . I need it to have decades of stories built into its beautiful reclaimed bones, so that I may hear the whispers of a life well lived. . . I need it to be covered in battle scars I can gently trace with the tips of my finge… ift.tt/3b6zwGR

Just FYI, if your @netflix account gets hacked and upgraded to the $16/mo plan by someone in another country after you cancel months prior and can't log in, @netflix will basically tell you to suck it, bc it's already paid for and account security isn't their concern nor problem.

New video up on YouTube today! Since I don't have wifi up at the cabin I'm currently at, I'm trying out something a little different to replace the old live "Sunday Q&A" we were doing there for a while. (Don't worry! These won't be two hours long like th… ift.tt/3atFe5c

One of the things I love the most about living at the top of a mountain is how I'm encouraged to spend my time. . . Being completely disconnected from the world is such a privilege in its own right, and typically difficult to come by these days. When I'm… ift.tt/2NKwcXY

Learning how to ebb and flow like the tides more and more each day. It's interesting that as I begin to let go of things not meant for me, so much more of what I want (and need) in my life begins to show up and come into alignment. . . Perhaps that's why… ift.tt/37bYaU7

I posted a video of a tillage radish in stories last night, to which a chef friend messaged and asked if "those were similar to the ones @chefdanbarber had posted about last month." . . In fact, they were! But the story doesn't end there. There are SO MA… ift.tt/35KTGCo

Looking out the kitchen window each day, it's hard to believe that three years ago this place was scorched by wildfire so badly that it looked like the moon. . . And there's nothing to say it won't happen again. . . But I look around here and I see and f… ift.tt/39HCzV6

Lift, sort, mix. . . I crush the large chunks of charcoal as I find them, and mix the crumbles with some soil duff I've collected from the odd bamboo patch halfway down the hill. I take scoops of the mycelium heavy mulch from various places as I notice i… ift.tt/2ZO01M6

"Is this 'what's next' for you?" we collectively wonder. . . To be totally honest, I haven't a clue. I know I need to pick a direction and go for it- I just kind of figured that something would eventually feel "right" like I've been led to believe for so… ift.tt/2STubw3

"You got a few granadas, right? The ones on the far end of the orchard, closest to the figs?" . . I realize I haven't snapped many photos over the last week or two at the old farm- tbh, I'm mostly just grateful to be back in California again, and have be… ift.tt/2PQgjiH

I spotted this scene while doing some raised bed rehab in a friend's garden this week and immediately knew it would be my favorite garden photo for the year! . . I've had this "wild theory" that "the garden has an immune system" since my late teens. Thro… ift.tt/34XpwMx

Happy World Soil Day! 🌱 . . It feels like we've been on a soil-building, cover-cropping, and erosion-preventing journey all dang year, so finding out the theme of this year's soil day is "Stop Soil Erosion, Save our Future" has me feeling like I have… ift.tt/35YSKuK
