Bad coaches and trainers prey on parents and players who overestimate their ability. They sell them exactly what they want to hear: “Your coach just doesn’t see how talented you are. Keep coming to me - I’ll get you to college.” Good coaches tell you the truth. Bad ones sell you a dream.

Some kids live five minutes away and still won’t come to a workout or pickup. Others will take a bus or drive over an hour just to play. Work with those kids. A lot of kids play basketball. Not all of them truly love it.

I remember meeting Marcus Carr when I was an AC at the first BioSteel Game. He was one of the most well-spoken, serious and teachable kids I’d ever met. His success is no surprise. The most well-rounded kids accept coaching, work the hardest and do what it takes to be great.

Funny how many parents think their kid needs a tournament every weekend. The truly elite players don’t play that much. They pick the biggest events, play the best competition, then get back in the gym and work. Elite players don’t chase tournaments. They chase development.

Funny thing about rankings… they’re based on evaluations, projections & yes, opinions. There’s no perfectly objective way to rank talent. And luckily, there doesn’t need to be. You don’t need to be everyone’s #1. You just need one school to see you as theirs. 🎯

Good morning! A HARD truth and reality many don’t want to accept: Sitting on the bench CAN be a form of development! If you don’t understand that, then you probably don’t understand sports.

Coaches are responsible for player development. Player development isn’t a department. It isn’t a workout before practice. Your practice is player development. Every drill, constraint, conversation, rep, minute. Everything you do is either developing them, or wasting their time.

Too many kids are the same as everyone else and want to fit in. Walk the same, talk the same, dress the same, hair the same. Who’s the leader? Hard to find the ones different that march to the beat of their own drum. Who out there can set their own trend?

Elite teams move the ball. Elite teams share the ball. Players that stall the ball stand out. And not in a good way.

We absolutely notice when a player forces shots. And even more so when they pass up a chance to give a 1-more pass.

A lot of parents will have shock trauma when their kid gets to college. You have no control or say so. Go to the game, watch the game, go home.

Parents: Don’t rush the process. Stop stressing over exposure, rankings, comparisons, keeping up. What matters more? Development. Confidence. Letting a love for the game grow naturally. You’ll find out the hard way, not every shiny opportunity is the right one. Trust the journey!

Coach Sundance Wicks shut down his own assistant mid-conditioning because he doesn’t want coaches to be the only leadership voice in the building. College basketball is player-led, and if you can’t hold a teammate accountable or be held accountable yourself, coaches will find someone on the roster who can. Start building that muscle now.

30+ minutes of Zach Edey propaganda.... The Grizzlies had a 97 defensive rating when Zach Edey was on the floor. When he was off the floor the Grizz had a 122 defensive rating. That's a 25.5 point differential. Edey was so damn dominant defensively and on the glass, he was breaking the analytic system. So much so that experts couldn't believe it, and the only explanation they could come up with was that Jaylen Wells and Vince Williams Jr. was fighting over screens and protecting Edey. It didn't occur to them that guards simply didn't want to come inside with Edey down there, allowing their defenders to recover. Sure enough when Zach Edey left the lineup, guys couldn't seem to fight over screens anymore. When guarded by Zach Edey: Steph Curry is 4/17 Ivica Zubac is 6/16 De'Aaron Fox is 4/11 LeBron James is 9/19 Sengun is 8/18 Austin Reaves is 1/5 Evan Mobley is 7/17 Harden is 4/11 SGA is 13/30 Jalen Williams is 8/16 Jalen Green is 10/22 Jimmy Butler is 4/10 Kawhi is 8/15 Chet Holmgren is 5/13 Myles Turner is 3/10 Zion is 1/5 Ant is 3/7 Cam Boozer doesn't have to worry about covering for the Big Zamboni on the defensive end, @Tmac_213 because Zambo will be covering for EVERYBODY... Cam will handle the offense, Zach will handle the defense. They will show you better than I can tell u.
Tracy McGrady really did piss me off talking about my franchise center. Saying the Grizz got it wrong by drafting Cam Boozer because he's slow & not athletic & Edey needed a forward who's going to cover for him defensively. Called my future franchise frontcourt too slow and wont be able to defend. Yall got Zach Edey fuqed all the way up. Zach Edey was wrecking the league on the defensive end during his 11 games this year and what he was doing was 100% sustainable. He switched out & guarded some of the best isolation scorers in the game and won those defensive matchups, and completely shut down the paint at the same time. He was covering for Cam Spencer & Aldama defensively when they were beat off the dribble, and he was covering for Jaren Jackson by cleaning up the boards he couldn't get. I can make the argument that Zach Edey is a better on ball defensive player than Wembanyama. Zach Edey doesnt need anybody to cover for him defensively because he's the one covering for EVERYBODY. Ive seen Zach Edey chase down Kawhi Leonard in the open court when Kawhi had a step and get in front of him and stop the play. Im sick and tired of the false narrative of Zach Edey being a liability on defense when he was about to rival Wemby this year as being the best defensive force in the game. Yea I said it.
