If the rumors are true, the biggest upgrade might not be reasoning. It might be frontend.
A few clues:
- The Codex app looks noticeably better than most AI-generated UIs we've seen so far.
- OpenAI just launched Sites — not something you'd ship unless you're confident the model can generate publishable interfaces.
- GPT-5.5 was already strong at coding, writing, and reasoning. UI design felt like the last major weak spot.
It feels like OpenAI may have finally solved the "taste" problem: cleaner layouts, better spacing, stronger visual hierarchy, and more polished interfaces out of the box.
If that's the case, Gemini and Claude just got a lot more competition.
