I am so glad to see all of our work paid off! AB960 one small step. May we all continue conversations about our incarceration population. A wall and barbwire does not make them less human. It just makes them more caged. #DropLWOP @SCSCNow

On Sept 30, Governor @GavinNewsom signed AB 960, the bill to expand compassionate release of people in prison, into law! Thank you to all the hard-working advocates who made this happen! @UnCommLaw @FAMMFoundation @ROOTandREBOUND @SmartJusticeCA @WC4BL_Berkeley @UAPD @c_c_w_pWith

CA’s current compassionate release system has failed thousands of people like Demarey and Rhonda. It’s time for a more #CompassionateCalifornia. Learn more at bit.ly/ab960.
1 in 3 people who apply for compassionate release in California die in prison before the process can be completed...just like Rhonda's son, Demarey, who was only 28 years old.   It's time for a more #CompassionateCalifornia. Learn more about #AB960 at bit.ly/ab960

Even after doctors determine that someone is eligible, the CDCR Secretary has to sign off before a court can even consider the case. This bureaucratic step provides no public safety or medical benefit, and results in unnecessary delays, denials, and deaths in prison. #AB960

Families, loved ones, and communities are the best caretakers and advocates for someone at the end of their life. Just being surrounded by people who can provide physical affection, support, and love can make an enormous difference at the end of someone's life. #AB960

97% of incarcerated adults experienced childhood trauma, including things like childhood poverty, violence, or the incarceration of a parent. Early childhood support is one of the best ways to prevent future cycles of violence and incarceration. #AB960 #CompassionateCalifornia

Many of our elected officials including @GeneralRoth, being veterans themselves, need to be reminded of the phrase “leave no one behind.” ICE transfers separate families & block access to care, including for our immigrant veterans & military families. Support the #VISIONAct now!

I have worked hard to fight for the rights of our sick loved ones inside our prison system. This number is growing as we continue to mass incarcerated. #DropLWOP @SCSCNow secure.everyaction.com/wl3a6…

From blackdocvillage.com/about/: "The average medical student graduates with $240,000 of debt, but without a medical license and at least one year of residency training, one can not legally practice medicine. Black doctor-hopefuls are disproportionately affected.”

"For example, only 5% of resident physicians in the US are Black, but 20% of dismissals from training programs. And there is no entity responsible for supporting or advocating for these individuals."
