You grow up wanting to make your family proud, then discover that becoming your own person may require choices they don't understand. Learning to survive that disappointment is part of adulthood.
They become so proud of surviving alone that accepting support feels like weakness. They will exhaust themselves before admitting they need someone. Independence should not become a prison.
