As in 2000, Serbs have been sold a bill of goods. Now, as then, slick salesmen made sure to run a campaign that avoided addressing any of the difficult issues Serbia is facing. Just get rid of Miloševiċ or Vučiċ, and everything will be great! For example: It seems like only yesterday that we were told that Serbia's new rulers would never in a million years impose sanctions against Russia. They would be more pro-Russian than Vučiċ. Yet, in response to RFE's repeated questioning on this matter, the apparent "leader" of the Student List, Ilija Srdanoviċ, refused to commit himself. He announced that "All questions concerning international relations must be addressed through open dialogue among our citizens. These policies cannot be shaped by a single individual." It was a strange response for a would-be leader, particularly as he also declared that "A large number of citizens have been confined to a restricted media environment in which they have been fed falsehoods for more than a decade and a half. "As a result, they do not even fully understand the EU's agenda. Many of our citizens are simply uninformed." OK, so it will be up to the people, the people will decide. But the people are also too uninformed to decide anything. Your cue, @vonderleyen. We have been through this so many times before. Serbia's new rulers have no clue about anything because they are not really going to be running anything.
