🎉 New Study: You might not need 10,000 steps a day after all!
🚶♀️ Forget the 10,000-step rule? New research from the @Sydney_Uni shows that 7,000 steps a day delivers most of the health benefits—like lower risk of early death, dementia, and heart disease.
This comprehensive meta‑analysis pooled data from 57 international studies, making it one of the most robust reviews of daily step count and health outcomes to date
🧠 “Our research helps to shift the focus from perfection to progress. Even small increases in daily movement can lead to meaningful health improvements.” – Prof Melody Ding

📣 New Position Statement from the Fragility Fracture Network @FF_Network
The FFN has released a global position paper endorsing unrestricted weight-bearing after hip fracture surgery in older adults. This recommendation addresses the wide variation in clinical practice worldwide and is backed by strong evidence showing improved outcomes with early mobilisation, including:
• Reduced postoperative pain and increased mobility
• Fewer complications and lower mortality risk
• Shorter hospital stays and higher chances of discharge to home
• No increased risk of revision surgeries
🔍 Based on current evidence and international guidelines, the paper calls for:
✅ Unrestricted weight-bearing post-op
✅ Moving away from outdated, restrictive protocols
✅ Clear justification and documentation for any necessary exceptions
✅ Standardised systems for monitoring and auditing
The FFN urges healthcare providers and policymakers to adopt standardised, evidence-based protocols globally to ensure all patients benefit from the best care possible.

In our main analysis, gait speed is not effective in identifying fallers in older adults with #dementia. However, gait speed is an effective tool in identifying fallers when we focus on prospective studies only. #FallPrevention
