My deepest sympathy goes out to the owners, employees, and families impacted by the devastating fire at Pacific Seafood in Newport. This loss reaches far beyond Newport. Many of our hardworking commercial fishermen out of Winchester Bay depend on this facility to purchase their catch and support their livelihoods. The potential economic ripple effects surely will be felt right here in Douglas County. Our fishing families are a vital part of our coastal economy, and when something threatens their livelihood, it affects our entire community. As a candidate for Douglas County Commissioner, I believe leadership means recognizing these challenges, listening to those impacted, and working together to find solutions. When one part of our community hurts, we all have a responsibility to care.
