Got a weld test coming up? Don’t assume the testing facility has everything you need. Here’s what to pack in your tool bag, box, or bucket before test day. What’s one tool you never show up without?

3 TIG rigs. 300 amps. All pushed beyond their ratings. Only the Weldcraft triggered a low-flow warning. Inside, we found a much smaller coolant passage through the torch head. Small design detail. Potentially a big difference.

Slag cleanup without fighting an air hose? We're listening. Austin checked out DEWALT's new battery-powered needle scaler at FABTECH. Would you trade your chipping hammer for some trigger time? #DEWALTPartner #SponsoredAd

Running 200+ amps all day? It might be time for a water-cooled TIG setup. 💧 On this Everlast setup: ⚫ Black: Shielding gas 🔵 Blue: Coolant in 🔴 Red: Power + hot coolant return What kind of work keeps your water-cooled TIG torch busy?

One super cool thing we saw this year is that Lincoln Electric listened to what you wanted and brought the Ranger back to a classic look with dial controls. Not only that keeping your machine maintained is now easier than ever. What do you think of the new look?

Everlast has come out with a machine made to fix exactly what you need. You can mix and match your processes to fit the need for your shop with the new Nexus. What combination would you use in your shop?

If you are a lady in the industry it can be frustrating to find PPE that fits right, until now. PIP Global and Caiman Gloves has launched a new line that is built to fit right and Austin stopped by the booth to chat with @weldher_workshop about the new line.

If you are out at Fabtech this year pop by the DeWalt booth to get your hands on the new Atomic Compact Series to see how these can fit into your workflow. They are down in the lower south hall in #S17095. #dewalttough #dewaltpartner

3M Abrasives Clash of The Grinders is back this year at Fabtech, but this year it was the instructors turn. 8 instructors from across the country out to Las Vegas to compete for money for their school.

Struggling to find your rhythm when adding filler? Let Mr. TIG get in your head: “Dab, dab, dab.”

Everyone dips their tungsten. Adding filler just gives you more chances. Filler adds metal and helps cool the puddle, but getting both hands working together takes practice. What’s your best tip for someone adding filler to a TIG weld for the first time?

TIG welding without filler wire? That’s autogenous welding. You’ll see it on thin sanitary tubing, but it’s also a way for beginners to practice forming and moving a puddle before adding filler. Where have you used it in the field?

We tested a combo-welding process at The Handheld Laser Institute: Laser root pass + FCAW fill/cap = 2 passes total. It passed the bend test, and it could make a quality root pass more accessible than traditional GTAW, GMAW, or SMAW. Could this have a place in industry?

We tested whether 3/8-inch plate could be joined in just two passes with a handheld laser welder, welding from both sides of the joint. Full penetration. Bend test passed. Little to no distortion. Not every job gives you access to both sides, but this could be a big option.

Laser welding is known for thin material and low distortion, but what happens when you use it to fill a 3/8-inch multipass groove weld? Buddy Holbrook laid in roughly 23 passes. The plate distorted more than expected, but it still passed the root bend test.

Torch cutting tip: start with your torch at a 90-degree angle to the workpiece for a clean, controlled cut. Some welders use a slight push angle to improve visibility. What angle works best for you? #Welding #TorchCutting

Finding the right cutting-torch standoff distance is simple: set a neutral flame, then use the length of the inner flames as your guide. Too close can damage the tip. Too far can work in a pinch if you are carrying a puddle, but flame length is the target. #Welding #Metalworking

If you do not want your torch restarts to look like an alligator got ahold of the plate, punch into the drop side whenever possible. Keeping both pieces? Restart where you have the most material, then clean it up after the cut. What is your go-to oxy-fuel restart technique?

You cannot achieve a true spray transfer with standard 75/25 shielding-gas mix. We talked with Michael Klee from Messer about finding bottlenecks in welding processes and solving the problems that hold shops back. What is one issue you see people overlook? #Welding #MIGWelding
