I try to avoid EDT/EST, PDT/PST, etc because generally* those only refer to the time observed by most areas for ~1/2 the year
I like to just say "Eastern" or "Pacific"
(and I'd prefer it if you did too, unless you meant to specify the daylight savings status)
you know that phrase "if you look at it wrong"?
its true, I looked at an alert config wrong, and the *mere act of looking* crashed our es cluster
understanding complex systems is hard because sometimes you don't even know the terms to begin having a conversation
so today, I'm gonna finally write the TLDR that I wish were available I first started learning about #observability on twitch.tv/where_is_x @ 7pm ET
YANA retweeted
please don't teach people to run arbitrary code out of verified tweets
#Engineers, pls run this .py code for a surprise
print('\n'.join
([''.join
([('Engineer'[(x-y)%8 ]
if((x*0.05)**2+(y*0.1)**2-1)
**3-(x*0.05)**2*(y*0.1)
**3<=0 else' ')
for x in range(-30,30)])
for y in range(15,-15,-1)]))
i don't love coding in the dark (@~@)
but i love coding in the ⋆ 。゜☁︎ 。⋆ dark 。゜☾゜。⋆
ps- hi, this is my first observability pun
yanas life goals:
✅ be immortalized in open sauce✨
(😅now I really need to learn some parseltongue)
heh I got a @Where_Is_X stream-meme special "squacket" into pytest github.com/pytest-dev/pytest…
TIL context propagation: how traces pass stuff to each other in the ether
(but not everyone speaks the same dialect so wam bam thank you opentelemetram)
in honor of learning through building+breaking,
I'm gonna make a observability platform with @ryanprior
scoping this baby out live on twitch.tv/where_is_x ~6:30pm eastern! (in 20mins)
come be my rubber duckie
I stream because my duckies entertain me with the some of the best wats I've ever seen
for example, did you know of a little command line utility called `yes` and all it does is print 'y' to the command lin?
:D
a couple years ago I started coding for fun
in the past week, I started observability-ing, and it's even more fun
especially when I ask crazy questions like:
can a log be a span?
can I have monitoring be derived from spans/traces?
struggling on a wall for 5+ mins is my idea of fun instagram.com/p/CZNRCopKzGY/…
this is a story all about how
my stream got flooded with duckies just now
I'd take a moment and give you all the sweet deets,
but the important bit is that I'm grateful for this heap
psst! check out @DrMikachu and @leonnoel for wholesome live coding on twitch (link in their bio)
oh hi. im gonna stream a reverse Q&A in 30 mins! we're gonna play a game of yana asks observability questions, and duckies get to answer them!
may the wats ever be in my favor
twitch.tv/where_is_x
sometimes, browsing twitter feels like standing at a busy street intersection, overhearing thoughts and conversations, private and public
co-authored-by is my favorite github feature of all time!!

I'm gonna learn to open sauces with @codewithanthony right meow! come stop by twitch.tv/where_is_x
in about ~40 minutes I'll be streaming with @Where_Is_X -- she's going to be doing some open sauce and adding crystal support to babi -- stop by and chat! twitch.tv/where_is_x
last year, #AdventOfCode helped me find some of my favorite coders on twitch.
they're:
sharp (woo they're fast!) &
wholesome (all aboard raid trains!) &
kind &
so much fun!
I'm sick and not streaming tonight, but go check 'em out! (see below)
