In June 1947, George Orwell and his family almost drowned in the Corryvreckan whirlpool between Jura and Scarba.
In 1981, his brother-in-law, Bill Dunn (61) became the first person to swim across the whirlpool.
Dunn lost his right leg at the hip in WW2.

Moray Council is offering residents the chance to name the six new electric m.connect service buses.
Now locals can have their say on what the new additions to the fleet should be known as. Residents can submit their suggestions online until Wed 31 May.

Over the last century, fieldwork at the Sculptor’s Cave has revealed the symbolic and ritual lives of Moray’s prehistoric inhabitants 🌊
It was first excavated in 1928 by Sylvia Benton, who returned in 1979 and climbed down the scaffolding to the cave at 90 years old.

In February 1597, Aberdeen women Johnnet Wischart and Issobell Cockie were accused of witchcraft and sentenced to death.
Aberdeen invoiced them for their own burning.
They were also billed for the burial of their "accomplice", Issobell Mantheith.
