I talk with Mike Rowe about how California wound up with sky-high gas, energy, and tax rates—and bottom-tier education outcomes.
Says Mike: "Consider this an ad hoc public service announcement that might help save America in '28."

To meet those horrendous Medi-Cal work requirements being imposed by the "One Big Ugly Bill", beneficiaries will have to work no more than 34 hours in one month out of any six. They can also study, train, volunteer, or lie about doing so. californiapolicycenter.org/t…

There’s not a single MAGA Republican in a position of power anywhere in Los Angeles, but Nithya’s supporters are so fucking stupid, they think MAGA is at fault for communist LA being such a mess. This place has been run entirely by far left radicals for decades, and every state that Angelenos are fleeing to is full of (and run by) MAGA republicans. We are approaching levels of IQ once thought impossible among sentient beings.

Everything in Oakland is a scam. And it always seems to lead back to SEIU 1021.
I used to be the East Bay Director for SEIU 1021, FYI. I know things....
Some Oakland airport janitors made over $200,000 in a year.
📰 The revelation came after accusations that managers were steering the most lucrative overtime shifts to favored workers, and that some employees were paying kickbacks to get them.
📰 A report prepared a Port of Oakland consultant upheld the favoritism allegation, but did not find credible evidence of kickbacks.
📰 It also found that the airport lacked a written procedure for allocating overtime shifts.
📰 Airport janitors were paid over $2 million in overtime annually for three straight years.
📰 The janitors' union, SEIU Local 1021, filed a grievance requesting compensation for the overlooked janitors and asking for the removal of the supervisors responsible.
📰 The airport says it i s facing a $47 million budget deficit.

More Than Half of California Kids Cannot Read. Two Thirds Cannot Do Math. This Is What 40 Years of One Party Rule Built.
51% fail basic English. 62% fail math. 64% fail science. California spends more per pupil than almost any state in the country and produces these results. The Democratic supermajority has protected failing schools, blocked accountability and fought parents at every turn. Our kids are paying the price.
Give parents the tools. Break the grip. Let us fix this. #FixCalifornia
And yet the district, a wholly owned subsidiary of its teachers union, JUST agreed to a massive pay hike.

It costs businesses a fortune to litigate against government overreach, but the politicians involved in the overreach suffer no such penalty. Consumers, of course, pay no matter what.
Last time I heard Democrats make this claim about states’ rights and voting was in the Jim Crow South in the 1960s. In fact, Federal law prohibits non-citizen voting in federal elections. So does state law.

No matter how strong the expiry language is, it’s always easier to extend a tax once it’s in place than to create it initially. The argument — “you won’t pay any more than you are now” — is easier than “you’ve got to pay more.” I assume all temporary taxes will be permanent.

Will — When l was in Maine, they passed a temporary one-year one percent increase in the sales tax, 5 to 6%. Still 6%… that 30 years ago.

Great article here. Not only was Newsom’s ban on hydraulic fracturing illegal but he shut down CalGEM from issuing permits on new wells for many years.
All of it was illegal.
Blue bars show new wells drilled.

Nothing so permanent as a temporary government program. 2012: Prop. 30 imposed an “emergency” tax, promised to be temporary. 2016: Another school-funding “emergency.” Prop. 55 extended it. 2026: Prop. 3 would make it permanent, marketed as merely extending an existing tax.

And this is the third time they’ve tried to extend Prop 3, right? We need a proposition that incentivizes our Legislature to eliminate waste and if they achieve certain savings milestones, we will let them write more checks.
