Happy Easter!
This leather pouch, recovered from the Mary Rose, features an amazingly well preserved monogram depicting the letters IhS, embroidered in silver thread.
This is almost certainly the Sacred Monogram, representing the name of Jesus Christ.

Mary Queen of Scots died #onthisday in 1587. Throughout her life, Mary posed a great threat to Elizabeth I, as she had no heir to succeed her. Mary was captured by Elizabeth’s army and was placed under house arrest until her execution at Fotheringhay Castle. She was first buried in Peterborough Cathedral with great solemnity by Elizabeth's orders, but in 1612 her son James I ordered that her remains be brought to Westminster Abbey.
