I stumbled across a post by someone who generates their books with AI and they were asking why it's so wrong when they still come up with the ideas and basically still edit and direct the story. And I was going to reply the usual, that AI steals words, sometime verbatim, from books whose authors never consented to their work being scraped. And while that's a really good moral reason to avoid it, I think the better reason is simply that you are cheating yourself.
We all started in a place where we have ideas we aren't capable of creating yet. (This goes for artists too). Figuring out how to do those ideas justice is the entire point. Forging a tapestry, word by word. Getting better with every new story. Learning from those who came before us. The act of writing IS the joy. The end result is the icing.

There’s a reason the great dystopian novels envision a world without literacy. Those books warned about the very age we’re now living in. Those who abandon reading & writing are surrendering their powers of thinking. What’s shocking is that so many would surrender so readily.

For the longest time I was a solitary writer. I had no idea of others reading my work, & I had no friends or community to encourage, motivate, & learn from. Having that now is beyond my wildest dreams & I'm so grateful
You write on your own but you're not meant to write *alone*
Writing is hard! You pour your heart and soul into your work. So much time. So much passion. Critique can sting, but learning what is useful for you to take away for improvement, & throwing away the bad, is a skill that'll serve you well!

If I have 1 more subscriber to my newsletter, I'll reach a personal goal!
In December you'll be able to read a short and sweet Novella that is a mix of Beauty and the Beast and Jane Eyre, set in the Regency Era.
Right now, there is a flash fiction piece (@WriteforLife6 's flash fiction winning story!) or a historical romance rec list available for f r e e when you sign up!
(and at least one of these may drop when I upload Ashes to Beauty)

When characters come alive in your mind, with ways they would act & react, the plot becomes a natural outpouring of who they are & are becoming. We come along with them for part of their journey. Let us get glimpses of where they've been & will go

This was a trend over on another platform, but it was fun enough I wanted to share it here too
One of those moments where yes, I am the author, but I am on the edge of my seat, my jaw is on the FLOOR

ALT An aesthetic collage in brilliant yellow and deep black tones with silhouetted chess pieces as one is being taken, a man in a suit with dark gloves, a bookshelf stuffed with old volumes, and a gothic cathedral lit by brilliant sun with the words "You cannot reason with a tiger when your head is in its—"

ALT The word "Mouth" is in big bold red letters at the top. The background image is of skulls and femurs, stacked into a pattern along the walls of a catacomb. The words over it read as follows: Bone snapped and crackled under the Examiner’s boots once more. “Adapt or die,” he said, the words so low redacted had to curl forward to hear. “And you refuse to adapt.”
We've reached a check in point! You're halfway through. Share how your doing with a gif

Why you write is a question worth considering, because on the hard days when it feels like it's going nowhere, you can draw on your why as a source of strength, an inspiration, a reason to keep putting one word after another.
