UK Ofcom's "crisis protocol" mandate kicked in yesterday.
To wit, when the British government determines a "crisis" is occurring, platforms have to censor their platforms more aggressively.
None of this is constitutionally permissible in America

November 10, 12 & 13: The dates of my appeal trial at the BC Supreme Court.
I am appealing a ruling that found me guilty of "unprofessional conduct" for advocating for the rights of women and children in my off-duty time.
My regulator, the BC College of Nurses, investigated me at the behest of a cancellation mob after receiving complaints from members of the public I've never met. I have never had a patient complaint. I was dragged through years of disciplinary hearings, lasting longer than a murder trial. (My fight was made possible by @JCCFCanada and @LDBildy.)
After my guilty verdict, I was told I would face a 1 month suspension and had to pay $94,000 to the BCCNM. My employer of 13 years, Vancouver Coastal Health, fired me with no severance, and no way to even collect EI. I was a single mom with 2 young boys. The suspension and $94k was put on hold for the appeal. My name is blacklisted and I essentially was pushed out of the profession entirely.
I first noticed the rise of gender ideology a decade ago, and I was fascinated and repulsed that women were being told to shut up about their experiences to make way for people who identify as us. Then I came to understand that paediatric "gender affirming care" is a terrible medical scandal, probably worse than the lobotomy. I began to write about the topic and, with another BC woman, began to organize events to discuss gender ideology. We faced vicious threats, protests, and attempts to shut us down. Later, of course, I was involved in a billboard project that drew a lot of ire from trans activists.
Never could I have imagined that life would go in this direction: being smeared as a bigot across the country; losing my career and long-term financial stability; and spending 6+ years in a protracted legal battle.
I'm still fighting because I care about the truth, free speech (for all of us, but especially for regulated professionals, who don't deserve to be policed in their private lives and forced to go along with state orthodoxy), and women's rights. Please follow along for updates.

These sorts of online restrictions keep surprising people. That’s because, despite going through a multi year policy process, they never get properly scrutinised or publicised until it’s far too late.
The Online Safety Act’s genesis was a white paper in 2019, but wasn’t really noticed until it came into effect last year. That’s six years in which very few paid attention.
This will sadly keep happening for several reasons:
- a belief that everything perceived as a societal ill can and must be fixed through a ban and heavy regulation
- a false belief that if you ban speech that it will prevent said behaviour, despite a clear lack of evidence that these ever work
- the painting of anyone who opposes these sorts of measures as a monster
- very narrow media reporting, often by publications that perceive digital devices as their competitors
- a worrying bipartisanship in Parliament, which means a lack of proper scrutiny
- an reemergent moralising about individual behaviour, from parliamentarians and some charities
- lack of willingness of civil libertarian groups, particularly on the left, to defend difficult cases
Taken together, this all makes rational debate almost impossible.
