Bill Maher's point isn't that programs like Social Security are bad, his point is that they can't survive without real reform. Because of demographic changes, you can't expect young people who are currently working to hold up a massive entitlement system for those that aren't. It's sad that we didn't listen to when Bush was President. Government spending is strangling the economy, and it's mostly driven by these entitlement systems. Like it or not, that's just the reality.
