Asked if Israel has a right to exist, he answered: '𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘭𝘢𝘸.' His party's conference just voted to treat Zionism "𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮 𝘰𝘧 𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘮" and to replace Israel with a single Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐤𝐢 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐞. Now he says he won't try to overturn it: '𝘐'𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘯 𝘪𝘵.' He says he'd like to amend it, but not before 2028. He is himself Jewish and, the Mail notes, grew up in a Zionist family. He waved off the definition of the word as '𝘴𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘴' and blamed Israel for the deaths in Gaza. The fallout is already landing. The leader of the Jewish Greens, Vivien Lichtenstein, has called on him 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 and says she is weighing leaving the party. Labour has told the Green groups it governs with to disown the motion or lose its support. The voters are noticing too. An Ipsos poll found 52 percent of Britons now view Polanski unfavorably, with just 16 percent favorable. His net rating of minus 36 is the 𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫, and he also lost the Holborn and St Pancras by-election days after the vote.
