No one should have to choose between caring and staying in work. This piece from The Guardian highlights why unpaid carers need much better support from the Government to balance caring and employment, without sacrificing their own finances and future. theguardian.com/society/2026…

"When Mike didn't qualify for the funding, it was one of the most distressing moments of our dementia journey." - Trish. NHS continuing healthcare (CHC) funding can be a lifeline for people affected by #dementia, but too many families are missing out because the assessment process is flawed. The petition to require a Young Carer's Champion in every school will be handed in tomorrow so we need all the signatures we can get today. Having this kind of support in all our schools can make a huge difference in helping young carers to balance learning and caring. Only 4,500 schools have a lead for young carers. We want to see EVERY school have one, which is why we're backing @VikkiSlade72 MP's call for a Young Carer's Champion in every school. You can add your support here: bit.ly/4zCTC6M #ChampionYoungCarers

There’s so much others don’t see when someone you love is living with Alzheimer’s. Diane is a caregiver for her husband, James, who is living with younger-onset Alzheimer’s. Together, they work every day to keep life moving forward. But when others see James doing well, they may not realize how much he is going through. Diane wishes more people understood that Alzheimer’s disease isn’t the same as occasionally forgetting a name or misplacing your keys. Even comments meant to relate can unintentionally make what someone living with the disease is going through feel smaller than it is. Sometimes, the most meaningful thing we can do is listen, acknowledge what is being experienced, and simply be there. 💜 #Alzheimers #YoungerOnsetAlzheimers #Caregiving

We’ve spent the day in Westminster to launch our new campaign, #PromiseToCare. Thank you to every MP that braved the rainy weather to speak with us. 💙 Our new research has found that half of people without dementia experience expect to be offered professional support after a diagnosis. But only 9% of carers actually are. We urgently need change. The promises have been made. Now they must be kept. Help us keep the conversation going by asking your MP to meet with us this autumn: action.dementiauk.org/email-…

But too often, families face complex assessments, delayed decisions and lengthy appeals, resulting in many missing out on vital care funding. That’s why Dementia UK has joined 11 other charities to launch a petition calling on the Health Secretary to urgently review CHC. Nearly 20,000 people have already signed. 🖊️ Please sign today: action.dementiauk.org/fix-nh…

This story is a powerful reminder that a dementia diagnosis rarely affects just one person. It changes the lives of spouses, children, careers, and often a family's financial future. Too many caregivers are forced to leave the workforce, deplete savings, and navigate a fragmented care system while carrying the responsibility of caring for someone they love. Long-term care is more than a healthcare issue. It's a family issue, a workforce issue, and a financial planning issue. The earlier families prepare, the more choices they'll have when the unexpected becomes reality. 👇
Paul's wife was diagnosed with young onset #dementia in 2020, and he has gradually seen all aspects of their previous lives slip away. You can read more about his story in the article below. inews.co.uk/news/quit-job-ca…

Only two weeks left to respond to the Government's call for evidence on Carer's Allowance. Caring affects everyone differently, so it's vital that as many unpaid carers as possible share their experiences to help shape future support. Have your say: gov.pulse.ly/v4uknegned
