When I worked at a company that did DSP we had unit tests that literally ran all fp values through calculations to look for discontinuities/singularities/etc. It found tons of bugs. I wonder if that will find more issues in these key libraries? xitter.cf/jon_barron/status/2113…

Hi all, I have a new result I'm excited to share. It turns out that *all existing implementations* of softmax and cross-entropy (that's JAX, PyTorch, textbooks, etc) have a subtle bug --- two bugs, actually. A simple rewrite fixes both, and eliminates "slingshots" when grokking:

some time ago I was getting an xray at the dentist and I heard the machine arcing. I told them, and they say "oh you're an xray technician?" and I said no, I just know what arcs sounds like. They shrugged and I dropped it The office burned down a few weeks later ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Something I've noticed: If I've thought about a feature for a while I can prompt my way to ship a 100k line change in a 12 hour day safely - it will work in production and not be full of tech debt. If I haven't, a 1000+ line change is dangerous and likely to need a rewrite
