Entire world wants clean air and pollution free environment except urban Indian middle class. I wonder if bursting crackers performs some psychologically compensatory function ; making up for their emasculation at hands of “invaders” or a rite of passage to “manhood” / both.

I’m convinced, one has to inherently be a bad person to be bursting firecrackers in India during winter - cancerous gases and pollutants that harm everyone, scare animals, make asthmatics literally breathless, and cause long term irrevocable damage to health, just to see some lights and sounds in the air.
