The Chargers are either the worst or one of the three worst teams in the NFL in almost every offensive category. EPA, penalties, turnovers, doesn't matter, they stink.
All eyes on the building as the BYE week presents an opportunity to make changes.

The Seahawks had zero three-and-outs all game, while the Broncos had 9 three-and-outs.
Chances that this was the first win in NFL history with zero three-and-outs forced on defense and 9+ three-and-outs on offense are quite high?

There have been 155 qualifying QB starts in the NFL this season.
Bo Nix's performance last night ranked 151st in dropback success rate.
His Week 5 start against the Chargers ranked 153rd.
On the season, he ranks 31st out of 31 QBs.

I find it very hard to believe this organization moves on from Hortiz or Harbaugh after this season, even if it becomes a tank szn.
It seems a bit prisoner of the moment IMO.

Starting to think Ben Herbert loads up pillow cases full of bricks and just swings it at guys in the facility

If every day when Hortiz walked into work he had a random guy gut punch him before he had his cup of coffee, how long would he allow that to happen before he demanded a change from the owners? I am sure it would get old fast. That is essentially what Herbert is getting from him.

Coaching malpractice
The right side thinks they are on the sort side of empty.
The LT thinks he’s getting more help from the TE. LG just gets beat.

Watson IS a sexual predator and this is backed up by the number of accusers, the consistency of their accounts, the NFL’s findings (that labeled his action predatory), and all the civil settlements he paid out because of it. He doesn’t need to be criminally convicted. These cases often require a ridiculously high standard of proof to secure a conviction. Civil suits do not.
And what’s that got to do with her being an OF creator? Consent and autonomy are the keywords here and her selling content is in no way hypocritical on the issue of sexual assault and rape.

As compared to what would be expected by game state, the Los Angeles Chargers are dropping back to pass less than virtually every NFL offense since 2016.

The Chargers offense had five penalties against them in the third quarter against the Bills.
They're the only unit to have 5+ penalties against them in one quarter.
They also did it in Q4 of Week 1.

Narrative: Great QBs elevate whatever situation they’re put into.
Context: Then we probably need to talk more about where great QBs are put.
Patrick Mahomes is phenomenal. Nothing I’m about to say is an argument against that.
But look at what he walked into.
Before Mahomes ever became his starting QB, Andy Reid had already won 130 games in Philadelphia, made the playoffs 9 times, reached 5 NFC Championship Games and went to a Super Bowl.
Then Reid gets to Kansas City. The Chiefs had just gone 2-14.
First year with Reid?…11-5.
And during the five seasons before Mahomes became the starter, Kansas City went 53-27.
Even Alex Smith shows interest here. He went 50-26 as Reid’s starter in KC, and his final season before Mahomes took over was arguably the best statistical season of his career:
4,042 yards, 26 TD, 5 INT, 104.7 passer rating...that’s a good season for a starting QB.
Then Mahomes takes over and everything goes to another level. And that’s where Mahomes deserves enormous credit.
Because for everything Reid accomplished before him, he had never won a Super Bowl as a head coach.
Mahomes and Reid didn’t just continue Reid’s success. Together they raised the ceiling.
Now compare that to probably the most famous QB/coach partnership ever.
Bill Belichick was already a brilliant defensive coach before Tom Brady. But as a head coach in Cleveland, he went 36-44.
His first year in New England?..5-11.
Then Brady becomes the starter and…well, we know what happened. Six championships together.
But this is where it gets interesting…Brady leaves. Tampa wins the Super Bowl in Year 1.
Belichick’s Patriots go 29-38 over the next four seasons, with one playoff appearance and no playoff wins.
Does that mean Brady “made” Belichick?..I don’t think it’s that simple. Just like I don’t think Reid “made” Mahomes.
Football doesn’t work like that.
What it does make me question is this idea that a great QB should simply overcome whatever situation he’s dropped into.
Mahomes entered the NFL with a coach who had already built winning offenses and playoff teams with multiple quarterbacks.
Brady and Belichick found each other and created something neither had produced independently beforehand. Then when they separated, their paths looked very different.
So maybe the better question isn’t: “How much does the QB elevate the team?”
Maybe it’s:
“What happens when the right QB lands in the right environment, and how much does that environment allow his talent to develop?”
Because QB development doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Scheme matters. Coaching matters. Protection matters. Weapons matter. Organizational stability matters.
And yes, the quarterback still matters…A LOT.
Mahomes deserves credit for becoming Mahomes…..while Reid deserves credit for building the environment Mahomes developed in.
Those statements don’t compete with each other.
Where a quarterback lands may be one of the most underrated variables in whether his talent ever becomes what we eventually judge it to be.
That’s not an excuse. That’s context.
Don’t tell me WHAT happened. Tell me WHY it happened.
Context Matters
