Mikel Arteta on the process of adding layers to players' games:
"Well, the mission were to take a player into the next season. A lot of work is done over the summer, but then the reality as well is that sometimes you start to see things and feel things, and especially when there are new relationships, which is what football is about, the relation between the players that are close and far to you start to think about other things and you start to develop a player maybe in a different way, or somebody brings another idea or concepts or vision about a player, and you do that.
"So you never know. And sometimes it's just a necessity. We have an issue with certain players, with certain positions, and you just have to think out of the box to put a player in a different position and developing that."
Then asked: "Has that happened recently? I know when you talk about feeling things, you've mentioned Saliba and Gabriel before, and I think Myles last season, but has that happened with anyone else in the squad?"
"Well, with Mikel, certainly when we started to play him as a 9, that was a big shift. With Noni [Madueke] this season, to try to play in a different space as well and in another side, that's another one. And yeah, let's be open."
