Announcing FirstMass.net, the first crowd-sourced project (that I know of) showing when & where Mass was first said in each part of what would come to be known as the United States of America!
Have a look-see. Know of an early mass? Submit it! I'll review, edit, post!

Not to mention, it's not like there's only one way to look Catholic! Churches don't have to look European. They should relate to the landscape where they are placed and reflect the culture of the people they serve.
Or how their parish looked. They were probably overjoyed they could still hold Mass, receive their sacraments. A padre from nearby Lone Pine, Fr Leo Steinbeck, chose to live with the incarcerated Japanese Catholics of Manzanar. He ministered to them alongside two Japanese nuns.
Poorer communities can't afford to hire big time architects to build out Notre Dame clones. They have templated parishes. We get our sacraments where we can, all the same. The people inside these parishes are just as pious as anyone in a big trad cathedral & deserve our supportπ«Ά
Sorry it doesn't meet your approval. If you don't like that one Las Cruces' cathedral you'll definitely not like Diocese of Salinas' Cathedral, which is shaped like grain siloes. Cause Kansas natch.
My church is big enough for all Cathedral styles we love to see it.

Days before the election, as polls show surging support for Medicare For All, top Democrats are now frantically trying to come up with ways to stop their party from pushing the initiative.
What is going on here?
California has its Californios, Texas its Tejanos, what about New Mexico?
Hispanos. Their language, culture and religion date back to New Spain days and was influenced by native languages too like Nahuatl and Puebloan

They call it the Land of Enchantment and it really is. New Mexico and its people are so dear to me

I drove through New Mexico when I moved out West. It caught me off guard how beautiful the state was and the last picture reminded me of it.
the funniest posts on here are from white people who converted to catholicism because twitter made them think itβs some white identitarian movement and then being mad when itβs not and they have to see brown people at church
Parish ethnic makeup has always shifted, and the Catholic West shows it: Spanish, Indigenous, mestizo, then Anglo, now Latino again. The faith stayed constant; the race didnβt. Anguish over parish ethnic makeup is really just about changing demographics in neighborhoods
Diocese of the Day is the Diocese of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Founded in 1982, this Diocese has some of the oldest Catholic history in US, with Masses being said here as far back as 1581. 139k Catholics across 47 parishes. Cathedral of Immaculate Heart of Mary, dedicated 1963!

Hereβs the thing: If a candidate is legit anti-oligarch and anti-corruption, then nobody should care whether they call themselves βmoderate,β βcentrist,β βprogressive,β or βleft.β
Loathing oligarchy is the ultimate mainstream position in the actual center. Stop conceding βcentristβ to corporatists who are on the real fringe of public opinion. Stop allowing newspeak to cast anti-oligarchy as an extreme agenda. Itβs not. Itβs mom-and-apple-pie normie at this point. Itβs literally the normiest of normie agendas.

This is a round about way to say Samuel is here illegally.
To be clear, I think Sam should be allowed to stay. I think Sam and the thousands of other hardworking immigrants who are paying taxes and raising families should be allowed to stay.
But sadly, Republicans don't
Update from the Seys:
βMy husband Samuel Sey entered the United States legally and has been working ever since in good faith with a lawyer to obtain permanent legal status. Our family is trying to understand what went wrong in the process. In the spirit of Romans 13, our family fully supports and respects American law and are prayerfully working to get him home through the legal process.β

I don't understand why every single bishop in attendance hasn't apologized for what was obviously a profound error of judgment. Like, you're a Catholic bishop being used as a tool by a deeply unpopular president implicated in a pedophilia scandal and you're like, "this is fine?"

"University researchers built a satellite that tracks people from low Earth orbit and dispatches a 5 kg payload to within .1 meter of their position, traveling at Mach 25 to anywhere on Earth in under 5 minutes. They suggest it could be used to deliver greeting cards."
Purdue University's IDEAS Lab built an autonomous drone that tracks runners through dense forests completely without GPS or cloud networks.
By running 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI entirely on-chip, it can weave under tree canopies and predict target movement through blind spots in real time.
Massive implications for next-gen search & rescue and edge AI.

1/ Joel has spent years helping build the ecosystem that coddled and supported the white supremacists he now tries to decry. He spent years celebrating the abuse of political power to the hurt of migrants, strangers, and others.

This has been probably the darkest 24 hours Iβve ever experienced on social media in my life. The things being said about Samuel, his wife, and his small children are unthinkably evil. There is a segment of the so-called βChristianβ nationalist crowd that has given itself completely over to Satan. Iβve never had more resolve to defeat these subversive demons invading the Right and invading Christianity.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Joel Berry has promoted deportation of illegal immigrants that he doesnβt know. Suddenly he opposes it in this case since heβs sympathetic to the person whoβs being deported. This is inconsistent.
