Alternatively, Fount could have Known that the mob was planning to execute him. He could have set the stage, put all his research into play, let himself be the assumed deceased subject. Imagine he left it in Cookiekind’s hands, and they chose wrong, bringing doom upon themselves.
Imagine the cookie mob “executing” Fount, cheering out “the Fount of Knowledge is no more!” as torches and milkcrowns (candlelight and petals) litter the scene…only for a Tartrus rift to open and wipe them all out in one go, leaving just corruption and the Fount himself behind.
It would have always happened no matter what, obviously, but I like the idea that something like this was the straw that broke the camel’s back…
